My family had a bit of an emergency we need to address and by the time the 8 of us were finished we needed somewhere to eat close by. Everything closed at 9 and it was 8:15 with 8 of us so we felt a bit guilty going in somewhere so close to closing. We saw Golden Pagoad was open until 9:30 on Google.
I have lived in Tomball 4 years and have not visited this establishment so wasn't sure what to expect.
We walked into a RED restaurant, I thought it would be overwhelming but the lighting was nice so my eyes adjusted quickly.
They were very polite and accommodated us quickly.
I have to rave about their straws. I get so sick of tiny thin little straws. It sounds so strange but they have good straws.
They serve fried wonton chips with hot mustard and sweet n sour. I miss this!! I haven't seen an establishment do this in a long time and it was missed. We all were starving so a little snack to take off the edge was perfect!
Hot N Sour Soup- Not the spiciest I've had but it had terrific flavor and the broth was beautiful and velvety.
Egg Rolls- YUMMMMM we all raved about the eggrolls. Even my mom who normally skips the eggroll.
Half our family opted for family style and the other half wanted their own dish... I tried a bite of everyone's minus my husband's guess he was really hungry because he didn't offer me a bite and ate every bit of it.
Moo Shoo Pork- Most of my family had never heard of this and it's one of my go to's but harder to find in Tomball. Their Moo Shoo Pork was delicious! All of us that shared the family style picked this dish as the favorite. It was fresh, tasty, seasoned well and the flavors just work so well together.
General's Chicken- I like how fried the chicken was, and the chicken was good quality. Overall it was a good dish. Not the best General's Chicken I had but it was tasty.
Combination Lo Mein- They failed me here.... there wasn't a whole lot of flavor on the lo mein, I think it could've used more sauce but the biggest let down was spaghetti noodles. I absolutely HATE when a place does not use lo mein or flat noodles and uses spaghetti. I will base where I order from by their noodles. My family felt the same, no one was crazy about the spaghetti lo mein and it was the least touched dish.
Beef with Garlic or Garlic Beef (not sure what it was called)- A family member ordered this as their dish (not to share) it was the first one brought out and my oh my did it smell good! I think we were all salivating over it. Luckily he let us all try a bite. It was delicious! I loved the bamboo shoots, and the amount of water chestnuts they put in the dish. It was very flavorful and could easily become a go to dish.
Egg Foo Yung- WOW! Their patties were big, cooked perfectly, and a homemade thich, rich, dark gravy. You get 3 patties and they were tasty!
Beef & Broccoli- This is always my husbands go to at any Chinese restaurant. He did not offer anyone a sample... but he ate every single bite so my guess is it was good!
Overall we enjoyed dining at Golden Pagoad and will be back.
Small changes to make.
Fix the women's restroom and add a light in the small dark hallway.
Changing the Lo Mein, needs more flavor/sauce and please get the correct noodles. They are not stingy with the meat or veggies in the dish so it's really sad it falls short.
