Read MoreThis place was recommended to me by a local gentleman I was doing some work for when I asked where I should go to get the best oysters near where I was staying. He said Dragos. No hesitation at all. In particular he recommended the char-broiled oysters.
I looked at the menu before I left and knew I was going to order way more food than I could eat but I wanted to try more dishes than just oysters. So when my waitress brought my drink, she had told me the catch of the day and the daily special which were red snapper and duck and andouille gumbo respectively. I meant to order the gumbo too but I forgot. I did order the char-broiled oysters, oysters on the half shell, fried alligator bites and red snapper in their Mediterranean preparation.
Alligator was perfectly fried, fresh and delicious and the remoulade was also really good.
The red snapper was so good! The fish itself was sensational in the way that only happens when it's freshly caught. The preparation had capers, tomatoes and herbs. Absolutely delicious without overpowering the delicate flavor of the snapper. Beautiful dish!
Plainly stated, the raw oysters were perfect. I'm from the Midwest so truly fresh oysters are a treat I rarely get. I may not have the most refined "oyster palat" in the world but these oysters were so fresh! They had a beautiful mild flavor and even the large ones were delightful.
Now for the absolute star of the show. I can't adequately describe the flavors of the char-broiled oysters. The grilled flavor was right up front and deliciously obvious. The garlic, butter, herbs, Romano and Parmesan ...... wow. I loved these things! The best prepared unfried oysters I ever ate. Period. The. Best. Ever!!! If I lived there I would eat a dozen at least twice a week!
Atmosphere was casual but nice and the staff was so very good at their jobs.
This was easily the best meal I have had in years!
