Friday afternoon we went to the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store at 800 Kings Hwy, Port Charlotte. We had never gone to a Cracker Barrel before, but have heard good things from some of our friends. We were not disappointed at all!
The first thing we noticed when we went through the door was the Old Country Store. It was more of an Emporium I think, but there were so many things to look at it really surprised us. Then we went to the dining part and were greeted and led to our table. The place is a LOT larger than I thought it would be and there were so many quaint antique items decorating the walls. Not only was the place large, but it was clean and bright as well.
We were greeted by our server, Lindsay, and brought drinks while we looked through the menu options. They are extensive. We both decided on the Coastal Sampler, which is breaded and fried whitefish and their breaded fried shrimp with your choice of 2 sides. I chose Fried Okra and Coleslaw and my wife chose steamed Broccoli and stone ground grits. Oh BTW it also came with a choice of biscuits or cornbread. I had the cornbread and my wife had the biscuits.
Everything was delicious! Some things were not as I would have expected. For one, the cornbread was much more salty than I am used to. They would have been better with some honey on the table, but that is just my taste. The Broccoli that my wife chose had a weird mouth feel to it. Hard to explain. It was good, but...dense. You have to try it to see. Anyway, the place is a wonderful option for dining in the Port Charlotte area! We will be back to enjoy more of their Southern American food. Oh... bonus! Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is right next to a Waffle House. Can't get a better location than that! If you are in the area, stop by the Cracker Barrel and see for yourself. It's a good place with good food and service.
