We have an abundance of TexMex and Mexican food in the Houston area and while I love this type of food, I do get hungry for something different on occasion. When the need for Irish food has me in its grip, a place I like to visit is Clancy’s Public House, located in the west Houston suburb of Richmond.
Walking into Clancy’s Public House requires you look for the main door. It surprises people at first because it isn’t the pair of doors you see directly underneath the restaurant’s sign. It is off to the right of that sign and once you enter the main space, there will be no denying you’re in an Irish pub. The green painted walls, clovers, Guinness stout signs, wood, and other features are typical of what you expect for this type of establishment.
Clancy’s Public House has bar seating and tables/chairs and I like the chairs because they are higher quality, heavier, and sturdier than what you find in other pubs. They have another room with additional dining space and private meeting areas also.
Food is the main reason to visit Clancy’s Public House. We almost always start off with an appetizer, such as wings, a large pretzel, or mozzarella sticks. This is good to munch on with a warmup drink while you wait for the main course. And speaking of drinks, they have a full-service bar here and a good selection of beer that goes well beyond the usual Guinness stout, Beamish stout, and other traditional Irish brews.
With food, guests can select among several traditional Irish favorites like Shephard’s Pie, Dublin chicken, corned beef cabbage, corned beef hash, and a few others. What I like is that, if you’re not in the mood for Irish food, there is plenty of other food from which to choose. I tend to go for one of the burgers or specialty sandwiches when I visit. There are about 7 burgers from which to choose, about 8 different sandwiches, 7 or so salads, and 10 entrees and other food options. If I’m feeling exceptionally hungry, I will go with one of the bigger menu options like the chicken fried steak or angus sirloin.
I really enjoy the food at Clancy’s Public House and I like the atmosphere. It is certainly an Irish pub in appearance and they usually have sports viewing on the many televisions. They have an electronic tunes machine with thousands of song selections and they tend to keep the music soft enough than you can still converse with ease. Sum everything up and you have an excellent Irish pub here in the west Houston suburb of Richmond, Texas.
