In the early 2010's, we were in Ventura and we were driving down the street. I mentioned that I ate there years ago and it wasn't great. My better half asked if we could give them a try. We did and we had an excellent meal. I found out that the two women sold the business to the new owners.
About a month later, we had a special occasion, so I chose Cafe Zach. We drove in from Castaic, which is a bit of a drive. We arrived for our reservation and we were greeted by Hector. He remembered us by name from a month ago! We talked for a few minutes and he seated us at a nice table. I believe I had the Rib Eye steak with bleu cheese and she had the Filet Mignon and of course those amazing buttery potatoes with just the right crunch on the outside! We had a wonderful bottle of aged local wine - it was a perfect meal!
We've been to Cafe Zack countless times. We've brought many friends and everyone is very impressed by not only the food, but the great service and the wonderful atmosphere.
The restaurant has an inside eating area and a super nice patio out back. Both are great places to sit, but we prefer the patio for the festive feel. The building was a house and was converted into a restaurant. When you walk up to the front door, there's a beautiful garden you walk through, then you enter the inside eating area. You can feel how nice and cozy it is. You also smell the food ... Oh my!
Everything we've had there is fantastic. Wonderful flavors, well prepared, attention to detail and a good size portion too! They have fantastic wines that have been aged a bit - we prefer a nicely aged bottle of wine, as opposed to a wine that the tannins haven't had a chance to mellow out.
If you haven't been to Cafe Zack, give it a try! I highly recommend it!
