A2B Indian Vegetarian Restaurant in San Jose

Update: July 2024I have visited this restaurant three times this month. I have had varying experiences with the tiffin options. Twice the food was so spicy hot. I had to inform the chef about this. The chutneys where having a lot of heat due to the green chilies too. Today, the coconut chutney seemed a bit old and lacked any salt. Request for salt to be available at the table went unanswered as the staff were busy. But they were courteous. The kurma lacked a punch and was less flavorful.Update: Nov 2023Quality is still good. Internet is a bit choppy. Recommend ordering from the table and confirming with the staff once to make sure your order went through.Update 7/16:Restaurant is still consistent in delivering food service and amazing food. Tried a new dish on the menu, Pitchu potta Barotta with Salna. This is Shredded South Indian style Parotta with vegetarian Salna (gravy). Amazingly good. Staff were very friendly and helpful.Note: Do tip in cash at the cash Jar to help the staff**********The restaurant has a great array of south Indian delicacies to suit the palette of a whole set of preferences. To those that are not familiar with this brand, this is a very popular restaurant chain in Chennai and surrounding areas. However, this restaurant here in Silicon Valley is much better than the ones in India in terms of taste and quality! :-)Location:The restaurant is ideally located in the heart of Silicon Valley right on 1st Street between 237 and Montague expressway. When coming from 237 exit on 1st street towards San Tomas/Montague expressway, the restaurant is on your right side. It's very easy to miss this because the restaurant name is slightly hidden.Parking: The restaurant has adequate parking in the mixed use residential + commercial complex that it is part of. Street parking might be difficult during rush hours. Hence, use the parking spaces inside the building.Ambience:The restaurant has a prime location in the complex it's part of. There is adequate patio seating with a covered heated area in case you want to dine outside.You do need to check in with the host as it gets crowded easily over some evenings and most weekends. They do have ample seating inside as well, but this place is so popular that it gets crowded soon. Get there early!The inside seating is very comfortable and clean. The restrooms are very well maintained which is a bonus! :-)Service: The staff are very friendly and courteous. Our group was seated very quickly within a few minutes of us checking in. The ordering process can be done through the waiter or using touchless ordering via QR code. They have free Wi-Fi and I would recommend that you connect to the Wi-Fi prior to ordering so that you have a good connection to complete the order. Wireless carriers do not cover this area well for some reason and hence data connections are very patchy. Connecting to Wi-Fi is highly recommended.Food:Once you order the food, it's prepared very quickly and served to the table. This restaurant has a lot of South Indian dishes which are very popular including the thali, dosas, mixed selection of dishes, etc. Order anything and you will not be disappointed.Though they offer very good coconut chutney and sambar, the onion garlic (red chutney) today felt like it was stored in the fridge and was served cold. It would help if the chutneys are fresh. But the taste was okay no big issues. We ordered Idlis and Sambar Vadas which were delicious with the chutneys.We did order the filter coffee with a strong decoction request. We were not disappointed and ordered one more to indulge and satisfy our cravings for South Indian "Kapi". It offered a good finish to the meal (brunch).Even though, there were very minor issues, I recommend this place highly and give it five stars all through.

A2B is a delightful Indian restaurant, well lit, well spaced with both indoor/outdoor seating and has decent decor. The food options include a great variety of North Indian as well as South Indian dishes. The food is flavorful and the service is quick. They offer different QR codes at each table to place order online and request a check towards the end making it a seamless experience, no waving hands :) Inspite of large capacity it gets full, so advance booking is recommended. They have implemented a compulsory 12% service charge in addition to tax. Don't mind that, if you are in for good quality veg food.They offer catering service with a minimum booking of 25-30 people. They have recently started live paninpoori counter for 6 pieces @~$9.Vegetarian options: Pure vegetarian restaurant. Has nice South Indian combos, alacarte menu of north Indian dishes as well as good variety of snacks like Hara Bhara kabab, Manchurian, Pani puri, etc.Dietary restrictions: Can customize dishes for Jain friendly food (no onion/garlic).Parking: Parking is both right outside the restaurant as well as in the basement of Riverview apartment's retail parking lot.

I like the ambiance. What threw me off was the totally contactless ordering. It was a push to get someone to take our orders. I believe the restaurant experience has an intangible value of interacting with the restaurant staff/waiters. Second thing that confused the heck out of our party was that we could not figure out who are the waiters/staff and who are the customers. The waiters could have a distinct shirt or something that identifies them. The food service is reasonably quick although be prepared to wait a long time for Thali service. Your fellow party members will certainly get their other items much before you do yours. The Raj Kachori is a waste. They have tried to make a decent presentation but the Kachori is very hard and the stuffing lacks “oomph”. A little more dahi would work as well. The Mysore Dosa was OK as were the combo Vada idly and mini Dosa. The thali was delicious. Plan to arrive just as they open on weekends otherwise prepare to wait.

Our first time here and the food, service , location everything was great. Decently priced this place has wide menu options from south India to north India and some fusion dishes too, it was actually hard to pick , but we tried , filter coffee , mango lassi , chilly paneer , garlic naan , masala dosa , kebab platter , South Indian platter and raw banana pakorey . Everything was delicious. The service and fast and the restaurant is clean and spacious. Would love to be back to try their other food options.

I would recommend this place to people who are in mood of south Indian food sprinkled with some north Indian cravings.My favorite were Chaat items like paani puri, sev puri, etc which was quite pleasently surprising for me given it is primarily serving south Indian food.Dosas were great as well. Crispy and tasty. I would have liked more variety in chutneys as offered by some other south Indian places.Even north Indian dishes like bhature, Malai kofta were average, better rating than some other south Indian restaurants.Kothu paratha was a pleasant hit as well. Hard for me to find a good one in south bay. Still not at the level of one offered at Madea's cafe in Sunnyvale.

Idly,Vada, Sambar was awesome. Corn soup could have been better. Rava masala dosa was nice, but expected more.Service was quick, order process was completely online. There was a wait time to have seat inside. Overall I would recommend to try.We loved the idly and Sambar. The building had a dedicated retail parking.

This place used to be good but not any more. My recent visit turned out to be my worst dine in experience ever! Bad food quality added with even worse service.Gobi 65 - oily and not freshCorn manchurian - okayishChilli and garlic naan - was chill and rubberyKadai paneer - tasted worst, blackish paneerPaneer butter masala - replacement order turned out to be similarly worseFried rice - oily, soggy and caused nauseaChilly parotta - only dish that tasted goodNightmare service experience: Since the fried rice was that bad, we sent it back with no hope of having anymore food. We paid the bill cancelling the fried rice. While we were about to leave they brought in a new fried rice saying that the order can't be cancelled and forced it upon us. That was shocking. After multiple back and forth, and tiring conversation with their employees and manager, we had a hard time settling the issue.

Service is pretty slow. little expensive than the other indian restaurants around but taste is maintained. The bajji platter with 4 varieties of bajjis is a great evening snack along with coffee. It had vazhakai, potato, onion, chilli. No complained all of them tasted really good. The place is jam packed during weekends or in the evenings in weekday. Service is quick if you order ahead through doordash pick up or phone.

A2B is well lit and has very good ambience inside. It offers both indoor and outdoor seating and has very good docor. New the outdoor seating, they have a live pani poori counter. The pani poori is just about decent to be honest -- but I love the fact that they offer onions and cilantro on the side (unlimited hahaha :D). It's kind of a rare sight in the US to see onions and cilantro offered.. :)I'm not a huge fan of the contactless ordering system they have though. You don't get good connectivity/signal inside the restaurant, so you'll have to connect to their Wifi to see the menu online. Too much effort to place a simple order.They offer both South Indian and North Indian items on the menu. Food is delicious and flavorful. One thing they could improve upon is the spice level. It's not at all spicy. Wish they allow to customize the spice level.Kothu Parotta and Gobi 65 Fired Rice are pretty good. If you like your food spicy, you can always ask for extra spicy sauce. Service is very good.

Very much authentic & decent food , +ve is it's 💯% VEGETARIAN joint.We had South Indian cuisineMendu VadaPalak garlic Masala DosaRasam Vada🇮🇳Vadas were very soft & freshly prepared.Rasam was too good + was it was very less sour for which I give them 5 ⭐ (generally rasam ia very sour ) .Staff is excellent, humble & very soft spoken.This is the only place in USA 🇱🇷 we visited, where plenty of spoons , forks are available on one's table, so no more Questions of holding our spoons ( which practice is followed in USA) + they A2B don't beg or ask for tip they just provide us with net bill for food what we had orderedExcellent⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Vegetarian options: Rasam VadaPalak garlic Masala Dosa

Amazing vegetarian food. Jain options available for most of the menu items.Jain Panner chilly was delicious.Veg thali was huge and very filling. The rice payasam was delicious. The were lots of different varieties of curry.The masala in dosa was also good and very fillingKal dosa was spongy and good.Filter coffee was amazing.The person who served us (Mr.Rivo) was extremely good and professional.Jain sambhar and chutney were very good but little spicy.Dietary restrictions: Jain food, no onion no garlic food available.

A2B in San Jose was very underwhelming compared to the ones in Tamil Nadu! Did not live up to the hype. People who are writing raving reviews probably have never eaten at the authentic restaurants! Mysore bonda was not crispy and a bit soggy, the kurma that came with Parotta was like kootu (no flavor at all), kizhi Parotta was super bad, all the food served was also warm not hot. The oil in which the gobi65 was made didn't taste good! One rule of thumb for restaurants - don't serve food in chipped china ware! Will not go back:(

Went here on Thursday and had to wait about 15 mins to get a table. It's not too fancy compared to the other restaurants nearby but the food speaks for itself. Lots of variety and matches the taste back home. We tried the Raj Kachori and Pani Puri for starters which came pretty fast and were fresh and scrumptious, They gave a nice and cold Pani Puri water which was refreshing and the puris had a good crunch. Raj Kachori was huge but got a little soggy since we took our time with Pani Puri ;)Main course we ordered the Kids meal for the little one and she enjoyed the little mini idlis and cone dosa. We ordered Rava Masala Dosa with chilli which was nice and crispy, coconut chutney was also really good. We also ordered Puri aloo which wasn't that great since they use the same aloo which is given for dosa but the puris were nice and fluffy, in retrospect, might have been better to just order Puri on the side and eat with the masala of the dosa. Finished off with coffee, they didn't have much desert options other than Rava Kesari which was also given in kids meal, so we didn't order dessert.Vegetarian options: All the dishes are vegetarian!!!Kid-friendliness: They provide chairs for toddlers. There are dishes curated for kids like Kid's Thali which comes with a small dosa, mini idlis and desert, see picture for details.

So I was on an evening walk in the area and happened to come across this restaurant! I was pleasantly surprised cos it’s a famous chain in India and I just couldn’t wait to try it!Loved the service here as well. We got water bottles and our server was very pleasant!➡️We tried idli vada and coffee combo. I was elated to have filter coffee after the longest time.➡️Podi Dosa was flavorful, on the crisp side. The sambar and chutney are great!➡️ Paneer kothu paratha was very filling and the quantity was good enough to share with another personWill visit again to try other food items!

I used to enjoy this place very much, but my recent visit has left me disappointed.The food tastes below average, and unfortunately some of the items were served cold.We ordered Combo Tiffin and Masla Dosa and Poli and Coffee.Of all the items only the filter coffee was worth the trip.

We went to this restaurant today afternoon for lunch. This place was crowded and wait to get inside the restaurant was about 20min. We had to scan a QR code for menu and order online. We ordered Ghee Masala Roast,Parota and Kurma,Tiffin Combo: Mini Dosa, Idli,Sweet of the day,Vada.We also ordered Filter Coffee.Ghee Masala Roast: The Dosa was decent,coconut chutney and coriander chutney were really tasty.Sambar was flavourful too.Parota and Kurma: One of the best flakiest Parota I have eaten in entire Bay area. The Kurma was tasty,fresh and well seasoned.Tiffin Combo: This combo was a little disappointing. The Dosa looked like a handkerchief,white not roasted properly,cold.Idli was soft,Vada was not fried properly(inside the Vada was soggy and looked like they should have fried it a little more). The chutneys served were cold and not at room temperature. Sweet of the day was Kesaribath which was decent.I would not opt any combos next time.Filter Coffee was very strong and best.Overall the experience was good,food was decent.

Ambience is really to look forward to and has nice outdoor settings. Staff is quick to respond to requests. We ordered ghee masala dosa, which was new to our taste buds and we enjoyed it immensely. We requested for poori Khurma instead of poori masala and it was very well made.We were slightly disappointed with vada, as it was very oily. There was lot of waiting time for people who came after us, although multiple seatings tables were empty, unsure why the delay in seating.We will come back to try other dishes.

Easily one of the best restaurants in the US! Great ambience, excellent service and delicious food! They have heated outdoor seating as well so we could take our dog along. Definitely coming back here again. Poor service and average food. We were a party of 5 and ordered paneer butter masala, dosa platter, paratha, onion pakora, dal fry and rice. Dal and sambar were bland. Their quantity for the price isn’t great either. We never received the onion pakora. The order took forever to come even with the non-busy night. They have a QR based ordering system which is not easy to use for everyone. Parking is not easily available.

✨ Came here at 9:30 am on a Sunday morning.✨ Tried their Tiffin combo 3 which came with 🍱 - One Idli, One Medu Vada, Mini Plain Dosa, Sweet of the day, 2 Chutneys and Sambhar and also got the Madras Filter Coffee ! ☕️❤️ Loved every single dish and it took me back to India ! 😭❤️🥰 I would say this is one of the places that makes the best sambhar, chutney and Filter Coffee in the entire Bay Area 👌But I wish, the Sweet wasn’t so oily 😫It was dripping 🫣✨ The place is also so clean and you order at the table and pay for it instantly with the QR code and they also sell certain snacks ! 💕Will definitely be back to try more items here 👍Vegetarian options: It’s an all Vegetarian Restaurant!

Visited A2B in San Jose on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. The restaurant is huge and has good indoor and covered outdoor seating area because of which the waiting time was less even though there were 8 families ahead of us. The menu is a typical south indian vegetarian menu ranging between all varieties of dosa, idli and South indian Thalis. We ordered the special veg thali, Gobhi manchurian, Puri and finally coffee. The quantity of the thali was sufficient for 1 person and surprisingly the north indian curries were tasting much better than the south indian Sambhar and rice. Please provide an option between Puri or Chapati in the thali as the Chapathi were very dry to my liking.Gobhi manchurian tasted good but was not hot enough. It was warm. Suggestion to the team is to pay more attention to such details if u are looking for repeat orders and customers.

Always a nice place to dine in with family, good selection of cuisines and decent prices, they are generally super crowded and that’s a bummer.And since samba is the only guy who handles order it creates a bottleneck and nothing against the hard working guy but the management needs to work on that aspect !There food is good especially South Indian, obviously!Must try - ghee podi idli, chilli paneer and Kara masala dosa .

A2b is one of our favorite restaurants in south India but this place ruined it completely. The restaurant food was okay, not up to a2b standards but the worse part was getting sweets. They were beyond spoiled condition. When we opened it, the foul smell was so bad that I couldn’t eat anything else for the rest of the day and I’ve never smelled anything that bad from a well known brand, not sure if it was actually made by a2b.

We ordered breakfast Thali, ghee masala dosae and filter coffee.🍽️The best part was the filter coffee🍽️The Thali had good Vada and chutney.🍽️The ghee masala dosae had no ghee in it. We assume they got our order wrong.There is service charge if you decide to dine in.The ambience is good. We expected more in terms of the taste and service though.

After trying a lot of varieties in the US, I decided to have some South Indian food, and I thought there was no better place than A2B, but that was not the case.We went for dinner and ordered cheese special dosa, oothapam, mysore masala dosa, sambar vada, dahi vada, and rose milk.Sambar Vada and mysore masala dosa were really nice, and the rest was average.All tasted good but not the real taste we get in chennai, maybe modified for the US. The quality in the rosemilk I had in Chennai was like it had rose petals in it. Here, it was just milk, sugar, and rose essence.Vegetarian options: It's a vegetarian resturant.

Surya was amazing in this professionalism! The place is extremely lucky to have him on the team. He can potentially be made in charge of training new employees about hospitality and professionalism! My mom absolutely loves this place as well!!!Vegetarian options: Authentic tasting South Indian food served by authentic people!

The kothu parotta was terribly gooey. When this was mentioned to the server ( a stocky bearded guy with glasses ) , he nonchalantly said its made that way. No apologies, no offer to take the food away and make another oneThe kids poori were good though.Terrible service overall

I love this restaurant. It’s pure vegetarian & good South Indian food. I used to feel the service is very slow because of the crowd & less staff to manage. Ambience is good but always expect rush & crowd.Staff are good & helpful. Overall I recommend this restaurant for South Indians.

We called ahead and were assured that a table for 6 was available. However, when we arrived, we were told that a larger family had just come in, and our table was given to them. When we questioned this, the staff claimed the other group arrived before us, but we had no way to verify if that was true. They promised us a new table in 5 minutes. After waiting for 10 minutes, there was still no table.With hungry kids, we decided to order food for them in advance, thinking it would save time once we were seated. The staff told us we couldn’t order without a table because the food would arrive and turn cold while we waited. We finally got a table after 10 more minutes.We ordered our food, which included Punjabi Curry, naan, butter roti, and plain roti. While the curry and naan arrived promptly, the other rotis were missing. After 15 minutes, we asked about the delay, but the staff seemed indifferent. The server dismissed our concerns and even asked if we wanted to cancel the order. When we pointed out that we needed the rotis to eat the curry, can you please give us new warm curry he bluntly said if we reordered, it would take longer. He argued that the your previously ordered roties would come early and get cold, and the new curry would come late and it will be warm. His response made no sense and showed a complete lack of care for customer service.The food was mediocre at best, and the service was the worst I’ve experienced in a long time. The staff was unprofessional and rude. I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone, nor will I be returning. Thank you for ruining our dining experience.

We ordered catering from A2B in San Jose for our daughter's arangetram for 250 guests. The process was made smooth with prompt communication, and made the selecting the menu to co-ordinating the delivery an easy process. They even accommodated our special requests to deliver with less plastics. The food was very tasty and the quantity was more than enough. Even though the delivery place was 40miles away from the restaurant, the food was kept warm for 3+ hours and was served warm my the caterers. Price was super reasonable. I would go to A2B for future catering events any time!!Star of the event was their Cocktail Samosa !!

Food was ok but the service was terrible. There was a mistake with the bar code ordering app and the host wouldn’t even let me speak. The dosa that was supposed to come with the thali came after us asking couple of times and at the end of our meal. Barely any communication regarding this. People spend good money to come here and have good food and a good time. Not right for the hosts to make it a bad experience for folks coming in to dine. Something similar happened before when we were dining with our family. Not sure we’ll be coming back after this. Have to point out that there was another person who was much more helpful.

This was our second visit to this location and we loved it. The ambience, food and service is wonderful.Likhita- our hostess was extremely efficient, pleasant and professional. All the employees are amazing. I thank the entire staff for making our visit a memorable one. We will definitely be back:)
