A fantastic idea that needs a bit more fleshing out. I saw this place when researching things to do in Roswell (we decided to stop on our way to Carlsbad) when we arrived and the gift shop/lobby was somewhat crowded and there is limited seating. The wait wasn't overly long but be aware, for those uncomfortable with people being close together in relatively small spaces.
The staff are great and go out of their way to help you have fun with your stay, starting with "security questions" so be sure to leave your flux capacitors at home!
There are some nice touches to help you suspend disbelief, an airlock that slides open (but needs some cleaning, there's a black stripe where a wheel in the mechanism rubs it), then you enter a briefing area that is designed to look somewhat like an airport terminal. You then receive the briefing specific to the scenario you chose.
After the briefing, your party is taken to your "pod" and given some additional instructions before the adventure begins. The scenario takes about 20 minutes and you'll likely find yourself spinning around on the barstool provided and craning your neck to catch everything. Good fun.
A note of warning. Without thinking, we took our 7 year old daughter with us on the Area 51 scenario and she didn't enjoy the light violence. The fantastic staff member switched her over to a video about a bumbling robot which she thoroughly enjoyed. Again, the staff really work hard to help you enjoy your stay with them.
The graphic quality for the scenarios is equivalent to some older first person shooters.
I do have a few recommendations.
1. They should move the waiting area into the terminal and add seating. This will help people feel like they're waiting to catch a flight.
2. Convert a pod to a briefing room. This may cut down on how many customers you can serve at a time but may help to improve the experience. Alternatively include the briefing as part of the scenario, in the pods.
3. Complete construction. The pods are missing ceilings and doors so everyone can hear each other. This also will help with the suspension of disbelief. Likewise, ceiling for the terminal and halls to the pods. Rethink the furnishings, a wire basket doesn't scream far future and neither do the barstools.
Take or leave, just some thoughts. We enjoyed our experience and will visit again if we roll back through Roswell.
