One of the few aviation museums that's about location as much as the aircraft. My first time aboard Ford Island, was a humbling experience. Bullet holes abound from the surprise attack on 7 December 1941. Signs in the museum are written in both English and Japanese (although the translations are slightly off and cater a bit to a narrative). The aircraft are nothing short of amazing; Japanese Val and Zero. B-25 on a flight deck commemorating Jimmy Doolittle's raid on Japan. Several other aircraft including a Devestator. Piece of the Arizona's steel galley wall. Main museum is rather small, but the history is significant.
There's a second hangar, looks to be under construction for a second exhibit space. Lots of aircraft in there undergoing restoration including an F-104. Swamp Ghost is there in the corner, incredibly haunting.
Lots more aircraft outside, some with ties to Hawaii, some just part of the collection. Many need TLC, that's the downfall of outside exhibits in a tropical climate.
Military and DoD can access the museum easily. Civilians must take a tour bus from the mainland. Plan accordingly.
