It is alarming and disheartening to see a lack of empathy and care towards our elderly. Today, Sunday, July 14th, I experienced it firsthand with my father.
As we were going to park in the area closest to the church, a church volunteer stopped us and said we couldn’t park there since my dad did not have a handicap decal. Though this may be true, it is only the act of an incompetent volunteer that calls himself a “Christian”, who is unable to observe and distinguish who may need this service. As a side note, I later checked a few of the cars in this parking lot area, and I counted at least 10 cars that did NOT have a decal! My father is currently 81 years old, and though he didn’t mind and went into the church without a word, I know he was affected by the situation.
I will also be sending a direct email to the church staff, as the volunteer claimed it was an order from the staff.
We must learn to discern, think for ourselves, and make better judgments, especially when being a volunteer at a church. It saddens me to write such a negative feedback about a place that should aim to assist and have compassion for those who need it most. The elderly nowadays, especially in this country, are not given the respect and care they require/deserve. May this be a calling to this and other places, that we must strive for compassion amongst each other, especially those that need it most; not simply, those who have a decal, who at times might not even need it!

He had the audacity to say under his breath that I should confess. He also told me that it seemed as if my dad didn't mind. Well, of course, what was he supposed to do? Not go to mass!
In one word, hypocrite.
