This is the sweetest little park on the north side of Atlantic Avenue in front of Atlantic Community High School in Delray Beach. The park was named Eagle Park in 2006 in honor of the Atlantic Community High School mascot, the Eagle.
There are a few parking spots along the side of the road. Park amenities include a gazebo which can be rented, a paved exercise path, benches, and a playground. It was sad to see that someone had spray painted the gazebo with graffiti.
My favorite part of the park is the wetlands at the entrance. Wetlands attract a variety of wildlife including wading birds, migrating birds, lizards, and alligators. While I didn't see any alligators there was a basilisk lizard who clearly wanted to break into modeling. They are sometimes referred to as the Jesus Christ lizard for their ability to run on water.
I enjoyed discovering this great park that is perfect for taking the kids to play, exercise, enjoy nature, or have a picnic. Just keep an eye on the water with small children and pets.
