In chains like these, I feel ratings only really matter on how they handle things when they go wrong.
I was using the app, gave my code at the drive through, got pushed along, then got called at to wait, as they caught that one of my items wasn't available. Which happens very occasionally. Is fine. They offered to replace it with something. I asked if they could just remove that item from the order. They said yes. When I got to the window, they gave me my receipt. But when I made it to the final window, there seemed to be a mixup on what they COULD do. The manage had just gone on break, they couldn't refund without her. There was a line of cars, I could tell the employees were flustered, and this has happened to me before - I could just cancel on the app. I was exhausted; I don't remember what we agreed to, but I figured all was fine, and left*. But, because they had already accepted / started prepping the order, I couldn't actually cancel the order.
I'm giving the 5 stars because it took a good 20 or so minutes for me to drive back, drove straight to the window and explained the situation. The girl remembered me and got the manager from break who already had my refund down to change in hand ready; she apologized about the mixup and was confused why I had driven away. Honestly, me, too. Exhausted; just wanted to get something to eat; so on. Everyone besides the manager looked like a teenager; I frequent this place and some of them looked new. And that happens - you get kids, you get new blood, and sometimes everything goes WRONG, and it's everyone's fault - someone says they can do something they don't realize they can't, you as the customer *go into idiot mode, and the app is out to get you personally. Despite it all and some fluster, they were consistently respectful and patient with me. Again, they had a remedy to the situation ready for when / if I came back. These days, I would not and do not blame McDonald's workers at any pay grade for not being 100% all smiles or to put up with stupid. Since we've moved here, I've noticed Peoria fast-food chains of every stripe are often VERY curt and bare minimum, and I don't really mind as long as it's not outright rude. But in situations like these, keeping a level head and doing your best is hard, and everyone there deserved the recognition. *They were kind, reasonably apologetic, the manager was friendly, and no one made me feel like the dummy I was. I expected to be told they couldn't do anything for me, and they instead made it as painless and equitable as possible. Was in and out in less than a minute. That's 5/5 service. Thanks guys.
