I can’t really say for myself how this company is, but when your gut tells you something is not right you typically go with what it’s telling you. It’s not because I read the previous comments on here. I freaked out the other day because I received a letter from the IRS and after initially reading it the stress and anticipation kicked in. I felt powerless because I had no clue on where to start. Long story short I Didn’t file my taxes for a few years until the last minute. During those times I made some changes on my W-4 and forgot to change the withholding numbers back. So a lock-in-letter was initiated by the IRS to my employer instructing them to change my status to single with 0 dependants. Keep in mind I’m married with 2 kids. . My advice to the people who read this is don’t be like me and make those mistakes because it definitely triggered the IRS. I didn’t get a visit from a man in a black overcoat or anything like that, but the letter with IRS stamped on it was enough to cause me anxiety. I immediately began researching lock in letter on the internet and ran across a video on YouTube by Victory Tax Solutions. It seemed pretty legit so I went to their website and the “chat box” popped up and I started messaging a rep. We then talked via phone and went over the dilemma I was facing. When he gave me an initial fee of $500 and spoke of other fees I already knew this would be one of those deals where I paid all theses fees on something I can probably do on my own. Which is what I did. The guy on the phone made it seemed like the action taken by the IRS would take effect right almost immediately and my next check would take a hit. That’s the bait and I didn’t bite. I told the rep I would talk it over with my wife had I decided to use the service. Upon further researching on my own the action by the IRS takes effect in 60 days from the date on the letter and in rare cases less than that. It depends on the company you work for. I work for a company with about 7000 employees. They have yet to receive that letter so my next paycheck wouldn’t be effected at all as initially stated by the rep. The very next day I called the IRS and spoke with a agent who was very helpful. She pulled up my information and I explained to her my situation. She was completely understanding. She approved my modification and immediately prepared another letter addressed to my employer to change my status back to head of household with the approved allowances. Even though I’m locked in still and will be until my taxes are paid, at least my status and dependants are back to normal. I’m not gonna lie I was worried and couldn’t sleep all night with that on my mind. Before you spend money on companies to fix your issue try and do it on your own first and if you succeed that’s one battle you won. It makes you feel really good in the end. I for one don’t have thousands of dollars to shell out for professional services and attorney fees. They absolutely do not have your best interest at heart. It’s all about the $$$.

i hired this company in 12/13 after receiving letter from the irs threatening a lien due to a 7000 tax debt. this was 3 months after my wife had been diagnosed with advanced colon cancer and i very much wanted to sell my home and move her to a warmer climate.As such i was greatly concerned with avoiding a lien on my home. I paid the $295 "assessment fee" and was contacted a week later and was assured my issue would be resolved for an additional $2000 fee which i paid. fast forward 30 days and i was contacted by this company requiring an additional $3200. Given my concern for my wifes wellbeing, i paid it. Admittedly I had not filed federal returns for 5 years they filed amended returns for me but the first problem ensued when unbeknown to me they had a new attorney filing Indiana state returns which never were never at issue. that resulted in the state seizing my bank account and another $5500. I can only presume this was "busy" work to consume my retainer. as time progressed i was enrolled in 3 payment plans with the irs; never defaulting on any of them. In November of 2017 I was contacted by victory and told for another $1600 they could ensure the release of my then (and now) existing lien via a direct debit program . I was guarenteed of its success that upon completing three direct debits the lien would be released and i could sell my home. Six months and six payments later my petition for release was denied. Victory assured me this process would be an absolute certainty; i asked if it were a possibilty of success and their agent assured success though this process in that " that is how the irs works; it is an absolute certainty. fast forward anothe 18 months and i contacted victory because i received a letter from the irs that they denied an exemption on my 2017 return creating an additional #2300 liability. Their attorney told me it was because the irs maintained my grandson for whom i am a guardian from birth had a different birthdate than was on my return. they apparently had known of this glitch but did nothing to correct it. They contacted me again in november of 2019 with the same song and dance of " pay us $1600 again and we can get the lien released. "i was trusting but not stupid; already had been scammed on that specific angle and gave up with victory tax solutions. I apologize for this long dissertation but i hope it may save someone from becoming victim to this organization. as a matter of fact; after 2 surgeries and several months of intense chemotherapy my wife beat the cancer for now but i still cant sell my home and deliver her a move to new locale because of the deception and well constructed path this company took me down. I will say in fairness they did refile my federal returns and i believe reduced my federal liabilty somewhat. i just dont know what it takes to clear the tax lien and they have no interest in discerning that answer with extracting more ill gained dollars.
