I am so glad I found Smogs and Tags 2 in Santee. Ivan (the Great!) took really good care of me and got my Subie to pass smog, which meant that I could get my tags there and then at the shop.
Background: My Subaru Outback 3.6 Limited passed 100,000 miles since my last registration. When it hit 120,000 miles I had that service done, which is basically replacing the spark plugs. Just one problem. The check engine light came on before I realized I would have to get my car smoged. I took my car to another smog shop in Clairemont that I would warn people to stay away from. To make a long story even longer, they couldn't get my car passed.
After replacing the O2 sensors it was touch and go because the Schitzo check engine light would occasionally come on. Once the check engine light was off for a while I took it to Smogs and Tags because it looked like I could get my tags right after it passed. (If somehow the car didn't pass I would have been in deep doo doo, because it might have meant replacing the catalytic converter.)
Smogs and Tags opens at 8:00 AM, and they are ready for business when they open. After explaining my situation to Ivan, he hooked up the machine they use to smog newer vehicles. The planets must have all lined up because I passed! That meant that I could get my tags right there and then and get on my way. Total time,....30 minutes. Since I needed an oil change and the price Ivan quoted me for the smog was more than reasonable I decided to get my oil changed there.
If you live in East County, or just travel through there like I do, I would recommend this independent repair shop because they are honest, efficient and get the job done right the first time. I know I will be bringing my car there future service.
