It is a busy, big city criminal courthouse
It has judges (people in black robes, usually sitting on the highest seat, against the back wall, in a very tall-ceilinged room, with lots of parallel wooden benches facing it. It has court officers (usually wear blue uniforms, carrying all types of equipment on their belt, not limited to a pen, radio, handcuffs with keys and the occasional, legal firearm). It has random looking people who look like they work for law firms (attorneys, some criminal, some not), and a very wide variety of random people who might be general civilians, defendants, prospective jurors, complainants, civilian court employees, etc.
Theoretically, everyone who passes through the entrances have been scanned and inspected for illegal possession of anything that can be found, but usually looking for weapons, legal or otherwise. In any case, not a good time to be carrying lots of baggies of mind-altering substances, or your battery-operated orifice equipment.
Those who appear to be present for brief needs, or reasons, usually appear quietly sullen and cranky due to interminable periods of waiting. Or maybe they didn't sleep well, are hungry, or in the throes of anxious, distressed anticipation.
Not usually a fun visit, usually strictly dignified and staid as old, big buildings like this tend to be. It is usually functional, well-staffed, but inquiries may not result in necessary information. Best to look up preliminary information online as applies, but be prepared to be given additional instructions, if applicable.
