Eve Bouchard talked a real good game when I hired her to represent me in a prolonged guardianship battle over my elderly mom, who had been financially abused and physically neglected. She said she would fight hard for my mom, but took nearly $50K and was not only wholly ineffectual, but abandoned me as a client right when we were headed to trial! I should have known when she didn't know the names of the key players 8 months in and asked me for a family tree, should have known when she kept telling me opposing counsel was a "nice guy", should have known when she told me I should just worry about spending time with my mom, and told a cautionary tale about a client of hers whose parent died during a guardianship trial, and how upsetting that was -- for Eve. My mom is still alive, and I'm still fighting for her. With a lawyer who actually does their job and puts their work where their mouth is, we won our major points in a settlement. Eve told me she had another case and didn't have the manpower to handle mine as a reason to quit - why did you take my case then? My current lawyer is a one man show and handled it easily with less than 2 months prep. She also tried to blame me for using a legal strategy that was on the table when I hired her, it should have come as no surprise. Eve gave me nothing but an ulcer and an empty wallet as I had to represent myself when she unceremoniously dumped me on false pretenses. I asked her to knock the bill down as she did not do the job she was hired to do and which she said she could and would do, but no luck trying to 'klaw' my money back from these grubbers. Ms. Bouchard may be perfectly adept at writing wills and such, but if you need a pitbull in court, don't hire a lapdog who curls up with opposing counsel. The real crime is my mother lost 3 years of her precious life to these time and money wasters. As a lawyer pal from high school said, they're waiting for her to die. It's a shameful corrupt system not just in Florida but around the country. We need to do better by our elders, who deserve our utmost care and protection, not continue to be fleeced by the system that's supposed to be helping them.
