I had an extremely distressing and unprofessional experience with attorney Tom Hyde. I originally hired him to file my Chapter 7 bankruptcy case and paid in full. During the process, I discovered that my Social Security number had been entered incorrectly on the paperwork he intended to file. When I asked to review the corrected documents before filing, he refused to provide a copy and became verbally aggressive over the phone. Mr. Hyde told me I was “so f***ing annoying,” said I “didn’t deserve legal representation,” and mocked me after I apologized. His tone was hostile and demeaning throughout the call. This interaction left me shaken and without legal representation in the middle of an already vulnerable and stressful financial situation. Although Mr. Hyde refunded my payment, the refund was issued to an overdrawn account, meaning I was unable to access the funds. Upon consulting with another attorney, I also learned that I didn’t qualify to file for bankruptcy for another two years due to issues related to my car, and that creditors could have pursued my mother for over $10,000. It is also worth noting that Mr. Hyde does not carry insurance for professional negligence which I only learned after paying in full. This experience has had a serious financial and emotional impact on my life. I strongly urge anyone seeking bankruptcy representation to do thorough research and consider how they wish to be treated during such a sensitive process.
