We owed almost 60K in back taxes and we were able to settle for next to nothing (literally). It took almost 14 months (which was not by fault of the company, just a part of the process w/IRS) but it was totally worth the wait and worth every penny!
Matthew (tax agent...filed our taxes) was also a pleasure to work with. Very very nice, responsive and helpful.
Sales on the other hand, was not very good in communication (very important because totally separate from attorney and tax agent) . We got off to a terrible start after I had hired them and paid, and 1 year later my opinion of him didn't change much. I will give him credit that when I made my initial call...the services that they promised to provide...were delivered in the end. Also, after the miscommunication and my initial disappointment, fee's in regards to the misunderstanding were waved. We also did everything electronically so I never had to step foot in their offices which was a definite plus.
Before hiring DTR, ask the sales rep lots of questions, get clarity, if you want Federal and State taxes filed, be sure to communicate that and get a quote BEFORE making a payment. Lastly, understand the terms and length of your contract (ex: 1 year and again ask questions) because it WILL likely take longer than that to settle an offer and if it does...they WILL request more $$$...which I understand...but you don't want to get hit over the head last minute for that request (like I did)...especially if you are just sitting and waiting to hear from the IRS. Communicate and follow up with your attorney frequently to find out where you are w/your negotiation (that job is totally up to you and can save you the additional cost in the event that your case takes longer than a year). & if you are anything like me...you don't have thousands of dollars to throw away.
