I took the time to research several different options and went into the process with a very clear picture of how I wanted things to proceed but unsure of how much of what I wanted was actually feasible. Reaching out to Cordell & Cordell, many of my surface questions were answered through chat right on the website. I quickly had an appointment scheduled with Jacqueline Ratkey. Realizing that my circumstance was someone unique with a recent move from one state to another across the country and and my spouse living in a third state, she called before our meeting to get a couple of quick details so that she would be better prepared and would not waste our allotted meeting time. She was super helpful and I was actually disappointed that she was only the on-boarding lawyer, however, she was able to place me with an amazing and very capable lawyer who has been able to help me through the special circumstances of my situation. My lawyer's name is Laura E. Smith and I honestly do not now how I would have been able to make it through this process without her and Andy Spiegal. Because of my desired profession and training in ministry, I am having to approach this process a little different than others. She has been patient and understanding, looking for ways that we are able to approach things to protect my future in ministry. Throw into all of that the fact that we are dealing with residency issues for my children and that my spouse lives in a different state, and I am so glad that she is able to provide clear direction and guidance. On top of all that she has been very respectful of my time and budget. Trying to function on a third of the income I am used to having, she has worked to not contact me more than necessary, since the time she does spend responding to me is billable, and she tries to be as succinct as possible when she does. I feel like all my concerns are heard and properly approached. It never feels like I am being pressured to do something that I am not comfortable with, even if it may not be the most optimal decision. In the same way, she makes sure that I understand the gravity of each situation. Between Laura and Andy, everything is getting filed on time and they go through everything to make sure it is done properly and are very, very fast to respond to each query I put their way. Before this process started, I only knew of lawyers from television shows and bad jokes. Because of those I have had contact with at Cordell & Cordell, I now know that lawyers truly get a bad rap. At this office, they want the best for families and they truly treat you as family. I feel cared for and listened to and I am so glad that I chose this firm to represent me and that I was assigned such an amazing lawyer in Laura!
