When they discovered, a couple of months out, that one of their close colleagues was the Managing Partner of his adversary - they had asked him to do all the leg work with respect to obtaining documents - they dropped him like a hot coal. They offered to send a demand letter without further support, and then sent a bill for $6000 dollars in addition to the original retainer.
My son-in-law was in a very delicate spot, and had to scramble to find a new attorney, and then start the discovery process all over again. It took a couple of more months and cost him a lot of money, and the family a lot of pain and a lot of suffering. We grieved Atty Mazzucco, but now the Bar apparently does not take on matters having to do with inappropriate fees charged by attorneys. We should have been less kind and grieved Atty Mazzucco for malpractice.
