I’m sharing this in hopes that others don’t endure the same frustration I did. Ms. Blackledge overpromised, underperformed, and both she and her staff repeatedly lied to me. Before hiring her, please read this review in full— and read through other reviews in full you’ll be thankful you did and will likely seek a more reliable attorney.
I retained Autumn Blackledge to handle a visitation modification for my son. She assured me that a petition would be filed within three days of payment. Now, three months later, no petition has been filed. When I voiced my concerns, she informed me that she was withdrawing from my case.
A few weeks after retaining her, I called the law firm to check on the status of my case and was told nothing could be filed until I completed forms I hadn’t been informed about. I submitted them within 24 hours, yet weeks passed, and I was repeatedly promised a draft of the petition. Each time I followed up, I was told Ms. Blackledge was too busy to work on my case.
Months later, I finally received the petition. It included only three claims, was riddled with errors, and failed to reflect the key points we discussed during our consultation. Instead, the petition seemed to be based solely on conversations with her paralegal, who admitted to writing it herself. After researching, I learned this isn’t standard practice—such work must be directly supervised by an attorney. Adding to my concerns, the paralegal works remotely and isn’t based in the firm’s office.
When I raised these issues, I was told I needed to schedule a call to discuss revisions—and would be charged for it. While I was willing to pay for revisions, I was baffled as to why the critical points we discussed weren’t included, especially given that I had submitted 111 pages of supporting documentation.
After expressing my frustration, Ms. Blackledge informed me she would no longer represent me. She promised a refund and assured me the check would be ready at the front desk. I called the office to let them know I would pick it up on Monday morning. However, when I arrived, I was told Ms. Blackledge was out of town due to a family emergency, could not be reached and no one knew about my refund. The staff claimed they couldn’t reach her.
Frustrated, I stepped outside to retrieve my phone to show the staff the email confirming the refund. When I returned, 5 minuets later I was shocked to find Ms. Blackledge standing behind the front desk, despite being told she wasn’t in town and unable to be reached. When I confronted her, she began yelling at me, claiming the check wasn’t ready because I hadn’t emailed her back, even though her email never indicated a reply was needed.
Eventually, she wrote the refund check on the spot, but the ordeal was unprofessional and humiliating.
Adding to my disappointment, I later discovered numerous negative reviews about Ms. Blackledge’s services, including allegations that she pays to have bad reviews removed and buys fake 5-star reviews. After reading these, I noticed a pattern: her reviews are either 1-star or 5-star, with nothing in between. Several reviewers claimed they weren’t even clients, but rather friends of hers.
This has been the most unreliable and unethical experience I’ve ever had with an attorney.
If you’re considering retaining Ms. Blackledge, I strongly advise against it. Please, for your own sake, stay far away from this law firm. I have now wasted months of my life. No progress has been made in my case. My son son is in a very toxic situation and I am now left to start over and searching for a new attorney…
