We made reservations earlier in the month for 2 days. When we called we were not told there would be stairs. We were told parking was 2 blocks away. It was at least 1/2 a mile away at the hospital parking garage. There is a tiny little awkward driveway that you can pull into just long enough to load and unload your belongings. The place was clean when we showed up. However the lady we spoke with in person was rather rude about everything. She showed us the room. Is was hot with no airflow. And you had to share the shower/bathroom with the other guests. There were 2 bathrooms and both had slick floors and small. The room also had paper thin walls. We heard the other guests conversations all night long as well as the train and any passersby. It was uncomfortable. And yeah for $10 a person you get what you pay for but the rooms could at least have had private bathrooms and not feel like that boiler room in the middle of autumn. It also smelled.

Nurses are absolutely great and wonderful. I had a full on operation for Nutcracker syndrome. I have an incision down the middle of my belly about 6 inches long. All my GUTS were moved around! Pain management is AWFUL here. I suffered the first night after operation because epidural wasn't given right or something. Pain doctor told me that. 2nd night was great. Pain under control and rested. Day 3 all went well I hit all the goals until they took my epidural to give me blood thinner. It is now 10 pm on night 3 and I have suffered excruciating pain now since around 4pm. I was told that they WOULD NOT let me suffer because of having epidural removed but I'd rather die then lay here one more minute like this. I have to wait until a certain minute before getting any relief and it's not the nurses fault. I am being given pills for pain control now. And before I was given pills literally desolved in water and being flushed though a hose from my nose to my stomach I was being given pain medicine straight to my stomach! PILLS DESOLVED IN WATER. I was given pain medicine at 530 today day 3. I was supposed to have again as written on the board in front of me at 930. But had to wait till 10. 30 minutes after the 4 hours. And now it's out of control again. Something needs to change. I don't know if I have just fallen through a crack but this is absolutely not what I expected. No one absolutely no one deserves to feel like they would rather die. I've suffered more than anyone should ever have to after such a MAJOR surgery. And I might add this is the very first surgery I've ever had and I wish I would have just suffered with the Nutcracker syndrome instead of having it fixed 😭

I stayed here repeatedly in the Fall of 2022 while having radiation. I do not recommend it. The staff made an effort and tried to be friendly. The cleaning ladies were nice and it was clean. I wasn't able to work much and was totally broke so the price was right. But adults going through traumatic medical experiences need a hotel, not some whacky youth hostel or dorm room. I have chronic lung disease and severe allergies. The place stank the whole time of new paint so I had to leave the window open to freeze in winter and the trains go by and wake you up and the racket from the college party street carries across the tracks. The staff claimed it hadn't been painted in years -- that's even worse! What is the pervading toxicity to sicken already sick people?! Get Clean Building air testing! It was easiest to leave my car in the parking garage and walk as a sick man to the hospital. Catching the right shuttle was difficult and confusing. Sharing a common space and bathrooms with strangers was weirdass. Don't do this unless you're desperate. You don't know what diseases these strangers are being treated for. To the University! Sick people should not be put in military baracks!

This place is God sent for those dealing with illnesses. Super clean, fantastic staff, shuttle system to get to the various places to see doctors, and access to kitchen and laundry. It's a bit close to frat houses; but that's a small problem. It feels very safe in spite of that. The price per night is the icing on the cake!

Great staff-professional AND friendly, great cleanliness, supportive, quiet, private (even though sharing); felt safe and supported by others staying there; and especially Mary! Sara came up right away to check on A/C. Thank you for having this wonderful place to stay! My husband and i stayed one night; and he went for his surgery, and i stayed the next night myself, with two men who were staying for radiation, and i felt safe and calm with them.

I was looking for a last minute hotel and was about to drive to Waynesboro to get one under $300/ night when I found this. For $10 I got a locked bedroom in an apartment with shared bath, kitchen and living space. The bed was twin size and I wish I would have known to bring my own pillow because they have flat hospital pillows. I felt safe and I had a place to heat up the soup I brought. It did get noisy at night when I could hear dance music from downtown and a train woke me up around midnight, but other than that, peaceful and appreciated. I booked late and walked about 2 blocks from the hospital. Lots of restaurants on the way. I walked back to the hospital the next morning. There was a sidewalk the whole way. Everything was very clean in the apartment. Only available for families of people who are being treated at UVA from out of town.

It was great! They were so nice! I recommend to anyone it takes away the stress of an expensive hotel while you are with a loved one going through medical needs
