The Sunset Inn - Islamorada in Islamorada

We stayed on Wednesday night in late Dec 2024. Christmas night. The main lobby in a little small but nicely decorated. There was a nice lady who checked us in. We had 2 rooms booked. They assigned us room 9 and 11. We had two, 2 double bed rooms. Room 10 was a single bed (not sure if it was a queen or king) so we weren't adjacent to each other. These are also located on the front of the Inn facing the main road and upstairs. There is no elevator so be prepared to carry your items. There were plenty of parking spaces even though the sign said no vacancies later in the evening. We got a spot right next to the stairs which made it pretty easy to load and unload. The rooms looked pretty much identical. They were much bigger than expected. They looked newly remodeled and very clean. One annoying thing was the lights were all on individual switches so to turn things on and off you had to go all over the room. The main windows were reflective and you couldn't really see into the rooms during the day but at night you could see in if the interior lights are on. The rooms had large closets which are closed by curtains. It also confused us at first but each room has 2 doors. One opens up to the outside of the Inn and the other opens into the courtyard/pool area. I though this was so cool but also confusing. The bathroom shower also has a window to the interior courtyard as well but it is frosted. The location of your room did dictate how much light you got in it as some room windows or bathroom windows area behind walls/pillars. We really enjoyed the very clean and modern showers with glass and no door. The kids were confused and like "won't the water go everywhere!?!". haha. The water pressure was decent and we never ran out of hot water. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash were were also provided and nice quality. There is no microwave in the rooms but there is a public room that is opened with a key card and has a shared microwave and ice machine. There is a paper sign that specifically says NOT to fill your cooler with ice so that everyone can have some. Also looks like this is where they kept the bikes if you wanted to rent them. They gave us pool towels at check-in as well and told us the pool is salt water but heated to 92F. When we got in, they were not kidding. It was sooo nice. This is probably why there was so many people there. There were at least 3 other families enjoying the pool at the same time we were. More than any other hotel/resort/inn we stayed at on our whole trip. They made a very nice, comfortable and inviting courtyard/pool area for the guests. They also had lawn chess set and ping pong right on pool patio area. You had to go to front desk to borrow the ping pong equipment. We would 100% stay here again if we were traveling through the keys. We were coming back up from Key West after having stayed there for a couple nights doing the Dry Tortugas National Park. We were headed to John Pennekamp State Park the next morning and then to the Everglades National Park. The decor and what looked like newly renovated bathrooms were the best. The window in there was a plus. Outlets were a little sparce. Nearby activities Lots of restaurants nearby. We stayed here because it's also close to Windley Key State Park and John Pennekamp State Park. Safety We never felt unsafe when loading or unloading our car or when hanging out in the pool/courtyard area. It was always very nice and inviting. Walkability Other than Mangroove MIke's I would think everything else is better off by car. Food & drinks Nextdoor is Mangroove Mike's which we stopped at for breakfast. There are also many restaurants nearby and the hotel stuff provided a sheet at check-in which had hours of local restaurants for the holiday days. Noteworthy details Spacious rooms with newly remodeled bathroom. Heated pool and ping pong and lawn chess. Hotel highlights Romantic, Quiet, Kid-friendly

I wish I would leave less than 1 star. Please DO NOT STAY HERE. This property is dirty and outdated and looks nothing like the photos. Me and my bf checked in on Friday and we got brought into our room 20 minutes later than the original check in time and then when we got in the room, the shower had no door. The water got all over the floor when we showered and then the door had a gap in the sealing of the door so there was AC coming in and out the bugs were coming in and out we killed two bugs in our first night here I would not recommend this to anybody When we saw the gap in the door on the first night we were here. We reported it to maintenance and ask if they could fix it they gave us a roll of tape so we had to tape our door shut. And then the following morning at 9 AM we went over and said we would be out of the room for 5+ hours and asked if they could come in and fix the door and we came back at 4 PM and they did not fix the door so we went back to the front desk. She acted surprised and didn’t know why they didn’t fix the door. I asked the manager and she said she would be in tomorrow morning which is when we’re checking out so who knows if I’ll get her but this is definitely not worth $400. Please go spend $600 to $800 at a really nice resort it’ll be so much more worth it I wish I did that Rooms: 1 Service: 1 Location: 1

Positves: The location is good, the staff is nice, the rooms are clean. Negatives: There's zero ventilation in the rooms. It makes the rooms very humid, and there's eternal humidity in the bathroom so your towels will never dry. Even outside of the bathroom all of your stuff will feel damp all the time. The air-conditioning is too loud to leave it on during the night, which was fine cause we happened to be there during the colder months. Would not come back. Closed to very nice breakfast spots (walking distance), close to Lorelei’s restaurant (great sunset, music, food&drinks,service). The hotel itself, super clean, comfartable beds, very nice heated pool (I personally would prefer a bit less heat on the pool, maybe 5-5 degress down and I am from south Florida). The pool are is clean and quiet. The grounds in general are well maintained and feels home. One thing I did not find correct - when I woke up on ny chekout day, I opened the door to seat on the chairs in front of the room to enjoy my coffee and a huge bag of hoysekeeping items where right on the chair. I know my what my chekout date is as well as the time. I think they should keep those bags somewhere else until the guest is actually gone. Overall great stay, I would stay again. The room was clean but the problem was the shower was horrendous. I cannot believe this resort can stay open and pass inspections with zero water pressure zero hot water. It was so difficult to get a shower and I could not get the soap out of my hair. There was no water pressure whatsoever and we had lukewarm water at the best. We ask to have a corrected and they said they would but it did not get corrected. Sorry I love it, but I will not come back. I cannot deal with no shower. Rooms: 2 Service: 4 Location: 5

Went to park in the widely open shared parking lot for breakfast with a guest from their hotel and was kicked out by the management. Apparently they are not friendly neighbors to the restaurant in the same building. She was out there wondering around policing her empty lot. Maybe find someone nicer to spend your money with. Its decent but its not easy to find in the evening or night when its dark. Would help if it has a bright sign for the Inn.It has a pool at the back and you can hear the noise if people are partying out there but it seems to quiet down fortunately for us for the day we were there.

Really nice friendly place. Rooms are large and clean. Only negative was the air-conditioning a bit noisy but works really well. Plenty of tea coffee and a fridge in the room. Pool is fantastic There are also bikes to use. Location is central. Plenty of restaurants and bars in walking distance. Recommend the Lorelei which is 5 mins walk out the back of the hotel. Great location for kitesurfing and diving and walking distance from a lively waterside bar with food and live bands and a happy hour. The room was clean with parking right outside the door.
