A Beautiful Resort with Hidden Costs and a Few Disappointments
The Diplomat Beach Resort boasts a stunning location and genuinely exceptional service from the staff. As a long-time Hilton Honors member, I felt right at home. The ocean view from our room was absolutely breathtaking, and the amenities were great, though unfortunately, we couldn't fully enjoy them due to ongoing construction.
However, a few significant issues kept this from being a five-star experience. It was a letdown to not be informed about the construction ahead of time, which severely impacted our stay. The prices felt exorbitant, especially for seemingly basic things like a $9 bottle of water. The automatic 20% gratuity on every meal was particularly frustrating, as tipping should be based on the quality of service, not a mandatory charge.
Our room, while beautiful, had some noticeable maintenance issues. We were disappointed that a request to clean a stained curtain was not fulfilled, and some broken fixtures were surprising for a hotel of this caliber. The lack of replenished toiletries was also an oversight. The additional $50 per day for parking felt like another unnecessary expense on top of the high room rate. While the cocktails were mediocre, their price tags were anything but, with a simple Old Fashioned costing a staggering $55.
Overall, while the Diplomat is a beautiful resort with great service, the excessive costs, hidden fees, and maintenance issues made for a disappointing experience. It's a nice hotel, but the "nickel and diming" really detracts from its luxury status
