I personally still recommend a chain type of hotel or a Airbnb if you want that romantic getaway. ORGINAL comment: My boyfriend and I stayed here this past weekend while in town for a concert. Location is nice, set father back in a quiet area. The buildings are kind of on the older side, but not bad. Room smelled freshly cleaned with fabuloso and heavy on Febreeze. We were in room 120. We checked in at 5pm, and left by 5:30 for our concert. While leaving we asked for clean sheets and mattress protector, as BOTH the sheets and protector were stained. The receptionist responded with “i don’t have any housekeeping to make the bed.” Okay, no house keeping by 5pm is a red flag, but no big deal. I told her if they laid the blankets in the room, I could make the bed when we returned. We got back by 1am, no new sheets in the room. I asked the owner for new sheets. He responded “are you sure they’re dirty?” Yes. I can tell when something is dirty. He brought blankets to the room and started stripping the bed, but left the original quilt and said “this is clean.” He had no fitted sheets for the queen sized bed. He tried a twin size and a zippered mattress cover before giving up and laying two flat sheets over the dirty mattress protector and told us to sleep on that. He offered a late check out of 1pm, but we live 7 hours away and had an early leave anyways. He responded with “ill see what I can offer you in the morning.” He slammed the door on his way out. Upon check out we were not compensated anything for sleeping on a flat sheet over a dirty mattress. Only 2/6 jets on the tub worked. Honestly, just spend the extra $20 and go to a Hilton or Embassey hotel. This place really doesn’t care about anyone, only money. Only giving it 2 stars because of the quiet area, otherwise I’d give it 1. Staff is very short and not super welcoming, they seem kinda annoyed, at least over the phone. Manager seems like a less than ideal character. If you’re going to own what is essentially a “sex hotel” (honeymoon spot) at least make sure your beds are properly cleaned. No one wants to sleep on someone else’s semen stains.

⭐☆☆☆☆ **DO NOT STAY HERE – Worst Experience Ever!** I would *never* recommend The Champagne Lodge to anyone – this was hands down the worst experience my husband and I have ever had at a hotel. From the moment we checked in, the red flags started flying. A large piece of floor trim was completely missing right next to the bed – a clear safety hazard. My husband reported it *immediately* to the front desk. Did they send maintenance? No. Did they fix it? No. Instead, the owner later accused *us* of breaking it! Unbelievable. To make matters worse, rather than taking accountability for failing to maintain their own room, the owner tried to make himself look generous for not charging us to fix something that was already broken when we arrived. Absolutely insulting. It gets worse. The next day, after speaking briefly to the manager (who said her husband—the owner—would be back shortly), we went out to lunch. On our drive back, a car began *dangerously tailgating* us. My husband tapped the brakes, trying to get the driver to back off. He didn’t. He continued aggressively following us all the way to the property. And who was the reckless driver? THE OWNER OF THE CHAMPAGNE LODGE. Yes—you read that correctly. The same man who couldn’t bother to return a phone call about a broken room feature somehow had time to dangerously tailgate his guests on the road. When I tried to speak with him about all this, he was completely irrational and dismissive—telling me to “call the police” rather than listening to our valid concerns. Absolutely unacceptable behavior from someone in the hospitality business. On top of all this, their website advertises that suites come with bidets in every room. That is completely false. Not only was ours deactivated, but we were informed that **none** of the bidets in the rooms are functional anymore. That is *clear false advertising* and totally dishonest. And don’t get me started on the so-called “continental breakfast”—unless your idea of breakfast is prepackaged Twinkies and Hostess cupcakes. Disgusting. Do yourself a favor and book your romantic getaway *literally anywhere else*. Essence Suites and Aura offer far better customer service, cleaner rooms, and actually treat guests like human beings—not criminals. **Avoid Champagne Lodge at all costs!"

Room was very nice. Intimate, no windows, so no concern of privacy being invading. My only issue with my room was the TV was clearly broken and no one serviced it. Oh and the steps leading into the pool were very slippery.

The room we got was absolutely amazing, and well worth the money. The jacuzzi was massive and worked very well. There was a small problem with housekeeping but everything else was perfect. I highly recommend staying here if you are in the Chicago area.
