Stella Mare RV Resort in Galveston

Bad Stay at Stella Mare. We were there from 11/14 Thru11/30. We had issues throughout our stay. Before you ask why we stayed. Everything else was booked, and they do not communicate well. They don’t answer the phone and don’t respond to emails or texts. We had a nice get together for Thanksgiving they had for everyone. Several of their staff were there. We noticed that when booking their website skipped right over the lot selection and wouldn’t let us pic. When we emailed them, they ignored our emails. When we called, it went to voice mail all with no responses, but they charged us a $75 deposit. Multiple calls to no avail. At 7 days out they texted me to ask if I wanted to use my card on file to pay my balance. I texted right back and they asked me what all I needed, and I asked if I was just going to get an unwanted spot since they were all sold out. Again, no response, but they charged my card and it’s now inside the cancellation period. So, we just decided to go anyway since nothing else was available. We were greeted at the entrance by a nice guy that asked he could help us. We said of course, since they signs were so many and hard to read. But he directed us to the office. If he hadn’t led us to the office, we would not have known it was there. No place to pull into so we parked in the road and went up the stairs to the office. Note: Very small sign. Climbed the challenging steps and Checked in and received a nice map and list with a whole bunch of instructions from the desk clerk. Trash pickup etc. Staff when we encountered them were nice. So we get to our spot. Pulled in, We have approx 5 feet of grass, no firepit, no table, just a bench. Most all were the same. We are just a few feet from the spot on each side. Basically we are in a huge parking lot with hundreds of Rvs all packed in like rats. We cooked outside, 5 feet from the smelly sewer hose next to us. So if you like to cook outside, you might rethink it. No shade, but there are small Palm trees. No firepit or tables. No shade or umbrellas around the pool area either. Now noticed, NO INTERNET, Oh wait, It is very poor when it works and drops in and out. It is totally un-useable. If you plan on using is as a necessary business tool, forget it. Bath house is all upstairs. So, if you need handicapped accessible, there is an elevator. There is no safe place to put your things while in the shower, so don’t take any valuables that you would leave assessable to others while you are in the showers. Washing machines. We found 2. 1 washer was broken and the other was full of dog hair and unclean and un-useable. Only 1 of the 2 Dryers worked. Reading other reviews, these stay broken all the time. If you plan to travel nearby, you will need a car. Bicycles are way too dangerous, unless you use the back roads behind the facility. If there were any level spots, we dint find them. So, make sure you have levelers or blocks. Pool area is super nice, but after dark it has lots of unlit areas that you might want to be aware of. There is no direct beach access, you will have to drive to the beach, as the beach cannot be seen but is accessible at a nearby pocket beach, but is almost ½ mile away across a very fast-moving highway. The office area also has a sparesly stocked stored, we noticed some of the items there were out of date. We are placed in between 2 resort employees or long-term renters and they have stuff everywhere. Dead plants in pots etc. multiple grills, kids toys, chairs, storage sheds, several used propane tanks, yard items, etc. We could even hear them as they walked thru their RV. This is not camping, this is not a resort, this is a huge parking lot with hookups for RV’s. In closing the folks there are nice. But don’t expect much else. Well landscaped, but, This is a parking lot for RV’s. Not a good fit for campers. We left early !!!!! Trip type Vacation Travel group Family Service: 2 Location: 1

Pool heater was down for most of our visit making it too cold to swim. Did not really see many amenities that would make this a "resort". Our neighbors left because the playground was closed. The sites are very close. The pluses are that the pads and roads are concrete and the staff is great. They did have game nights that were great fun. Guess if you have nice people around, you don't need a lot of amenities. Perhaps they should not charge for so much when they don't have working washers, dryers, playgrounds, or pool. We just wrapped up a 6-night stay at Stella Mare. We were originally staying 5-nights but we were enjoying our experience at Stella Mare and in Galveston that we decided to extend our stay. The facility is top notch; clean, organized, and beautiful. The streets are specious to allow easier backing into the concreted level sites. We WILL be back. Been here before, loved this park. Well this year came back and it was a bit different. Got a bit more pricy, the bathrooms were very dirty. The grass was high and you could not even be outside the mosquitoes were so bad. Read this review, I’m not kidding the mosquitoes are so bad you CAN NOT be outside. I’m not exaggerating and not being dramatic. Not sure what happened? Maybe a change in management? Great location still of course, but there should not be a resort fee. I’m not sure what that’s for, pool is decent, no shade though. No hot tub… hopefully it gets better if you give it a shot. First time in the Galveston area and this rv resort. Staying Jan-Mar. Will update this review as I get to know the area and rv park better. A important factor for staying longer term at a rv resort is reliable internet service. This park gets a D- Most time cannot connect. When I can connect it is not stable ( drops ). I am using an internet booster to pick up their signal. I find I’m using my hotspot or 5G most of the time. Several folks have talked to the Office but no improvement. I chatted with a person who has stayed here before and agrees the internet service is bad. Can’t be a “resort” to longer term stays with unreliable internet service. The cleanest RV park and bathroom you will ever experience. You can pull your RV through the spot which made setup a breeze. Our kids had fun swimming in the pool and hanging out. Just returned from 3 nights for the Lonestar rally, very nice place, and conveniently located. It was expensive but in line with everyone for the rally weekend. It rained for 2 days but still enjoyed the heated pool, found it well maintained and clean, my only complaint is the wifi is horrible. Trip type Vacation Travel group Family Service: 5 Location: 5
