I recently stayed at the Renaissance Fort Lauderdale Marina Hotel from December 31st to January 1st, and my experience was far below expectations for a four-star hotel.nnI booked my room through Expedia and confirmed with the hotel that I would be checking in late. Despite this, when I arrived at 9 PM, my reservation had been canceled. The front desk staff had to make several calls to reinstate my booking, which delayed my check-in process significantly.nnAfter checking out at 11 AM, I realized I had left my suit jacket in the closet (Room 619). I promptly called the hotel at 3 PM and informed the front desk. They told me that the housekeeping staff, who would not return until the next day at 8 AM, were responsible for locating lost items. I informed them that my wife would come to retrieve the jacket since it was a valuable one ($600).nnThe next morning at 9 AM, my wife went to the hotel, only to be told that the jacket was not found, and no one could provide any helpful information. For a hotel of this caliber, this lack of accountability and communication is completely unacceptable.nnIronically, I had a similar situation at a Red Roof Inn (a two-star hotel) six months ago, where the cleaning staff found my jacket, reported it to the front desk, and called me within an hour of checkout using my booking information. That level of service far exceeded what I experienced at the Renaissance.nnWhen staying at a four-star hotel, I do not expect to feel worried about the honesty and integrity of the staff. The higher price we pay is supposed to reflect a higher standard of professionalism, trust, and customer service.
