⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ 4/5 — Great Family Stay, Post-Hurricane Effort Appreciated!
Normally, the whole Simmons Fam takes over the units by Skip’s Marina for our annual fishing trip — but after last year’s hurricane, that wasn’t possible. This year, we all had to split up, and our crew ended up at Paradise Cove on Lemon Bay. I’ll admit I was a little skeptical at first, but the bay access sealed the deal… and I’m glad it did.
We rented two units — The Tarpon and The Snook.
The Tarpon was perfect — clearly renovated post-hurricane with care and charm.
The Snook… did its job. It had a bed and a roof, but only one small AC unit (which doesn’t cut it in Florida July heat 😅), and the hot water didn’t work. Thankfully, my son, his fiancée, and their friend were mostly out on the water all day and could use our shower or didn’t care too much about hot water after being sunburnt.
That said, the effort and attentiveness by the hosts were genuinely appreciated, and while I normally would’ve asked for a partial refund, it felt more important to recognize how hard they’re working to rebuild and host with heart. They even allowed us to have a big family dinner one evening as long as we were mindful of the other guests — which we greatly appreciated!
The location was ideal for fishing — easy bay access, no dealing with the Englewood bridges or tricky canals (if you know, you know 🎣). The dock wasn’t perfect for boats, but in excellent shape considering many in the area are still unusable.
The grounds were charming and low-key: a small pool, mini putt-putt, bean bag toss, and a great setup for family gatherings.
If rates stay reasonable, Paradise Cove might just become the new home base for our Simmons Family Annual Fishing Trip. We saw real heart, humility, and hustle here — big kudos to the hosts, and we wish them continued success rebuilding and growing stronger post-storm. 💪
