Booked and paid for a guaranteed reservation for Saturday August 24, 2024 back in May from earlier this year. We booked for two rooms at the downtown Marriott, so that we could attend the Zach Bryan Concert at US Bank Stadium, about 5 blocks away that evening.
We received an email about my upcoming stay the day before our reservation and then received an email that Saturday, welcoming us to the Marriott City Center and to go ahead and check in (email states: "Check in now and get ready for your stay") and did that online as we pulled up to the hotel.
Went into the hotel to check in and get keys and after some time with the front desk clerk, they walked away and came back with a piece of paper stating that they were overbooked and our reservations would NOT be honored at the City Center Marriott Hotel. We were given the excuse of it's the "Minnesota State Fair" weekend and the concert was there that night, which is why we booked for this hotel at the beginning of the year.
Meanwhile, the letter was from the Mall of America Marriott, stating that they were going to pay for our 2 rooms at their location, which is over 10 miles away...
Here's my biggest whining complaints about this all:
1- At NO POINT, did anyone ever contact us to inform us of what they did.
2- At NO POINT, did anyone ever apologize for NOT honoring our reservation that the location we booked and had already paid for.
3- AND FINALLY, the BIG kick to the rear-end ... they KNEW they were going to do this days in advance, AND never bothered to tell us as their letter to us proves... the date they wrote the "you don't get what you paid for letter" was 4 days BEFORE our arrival at the hotel.
They never bothered contacting us ahead of time to tell us ... which would have saved us a few hours and $50 in parking at the location we couldn't stay at... and did I mention ↓↓

If you get guaranteed reservations Marriott, make sure you have a back up plan just in case theirs falls through....
