Read MoreSo I wasn't sure what to expect based on prior reviews and the affordable price, but overall my wife and I were VERY pleased. We got the regular 'Romantic Suite'. Here are the pros and cons (and I admit that some of the cons are VERY picky).
Pros:
1. Check-In was fast and very friendly. They had run out of fire logs but had sent someone for some and brought them to us. The lobby was clean and welcoming.
2. The rooms are connected only at the corners, so they really are private cabins basically.
3. The grounds are very clean and well kept. It snowed barely a dusting while we were there and they still had the plow and salt trucks there to keep everything clear and safe. They salted directly to the door.
4. Housekeeping is offered daily - you don't get this everywhere.
5. Although an older hotel, it's been renovated well. Granite countertops, the hot tub is fairly new with modern controls and was clean.
6. The room itself was basically clean with a few "hiccups" - a few hairs in the tub, and a large black stain inside the door. This wasn't dirt, but a stain, so I can't complain too much.
7. The bed was comfortable.
8. Service was great! Our remote batteries were not working, so they replaced the remote immediately.
9. The location is excellent. Many food and food delivery options nearby.
10. I have a medical service dog, and they gave me absolutely no issues.
Cons:
1. This was the ONLY BIG CON, and I hope the staff takes this to heart. When we got to our room, it was 9 degrees outside, and the heat in the room was not only off, but unplugged. It was 24 degrees in our room, so our entire first night was spent waiting for the room to warm up while lying under all the covers. It took 18 hours to get the room to 72 degrees, so we kind of wasted that first night.
2. The stain on the carpet was pretty bad, but I am guessing they cleaned it the best they could.
3. For some reason in these large rooms, they put like a 32 inch TV on the wall. It's pretty far from the bed. I am thinking maybe in the year these were renovated though, that was normal.
All that said, I will definitely go back! For the price, it's an amazing value and was clean and comfortable. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and the rooms were probably a 7/10. I have spent more on Marriott hotels and gotten rooms that were not as clean or comfortable.
If you're considering this, give it a shot. I had even called ahead of time about the bad reviews and they invited me to "stop in anytime" to take a look at a room.
Just make the rooms warm before guests arrive and this would be the perfect little getaway from life for a few days!
