We recently rented a bass boat with a trolling motor for just $190—a budget-friendly way for me and my brother to get on the water together and split the cost. The staff were welcoming and genuine, and after calling ahead, our boat was ready first thing in the morning.
Before I headed out on the boat with my two brothers, my kid got to enjoy some fishing time in the catch-and-release pond. It was a great way for him to use the camp’s amenities and make some memories of his own before I left him with his mom for the rest of the trip.
The office is a real conversation starter—decked out with mounted wildlife from bass and turkey to a giant bowfin, even a rattlesnake, and some critters preserved in formaldehyde. I’m pretty sure I even spotted a stuffed possum on the wall. It’s got that classic “old Florida” naturalist vibe.
Lake Woodruff is stunning. A short ride through lily-pad-lined creeks leads to the main lake, where grassy islands and reeds are alive with fish activity. We had a ton of bites, caught a few, and enjoyed a gorgeous Florida day.
I’ve also rented a pontoon boat here before (with live wells)—just as much fun. Between the friendly service, the productive fishery, and their conservation work with Mighty River Recovery, Highland Park Fish Camp is a gem. I’m already looking forward to their bowfin tournament on September 6—and I’ll be bringing more family next time!
