We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Las Cruces for one night during a spontaneous spring break trip. It had been over 15 years since I visited the area, so I wanted to show my kids my old stomping grounds. Unfortunately, our stay was less than ideal due to ongoing construction.
Although I was aware of the renovations, I didn’t expect the impact to be as significant as it was. The construction extended beyond what I imagined. The “Deluxe” room I paid for had some upgrades, but still needed finishing touches. The shower took 15 minutes to warm up, the blinds were too short and damaged, and the window didn’t provide a quiet experience. Additionally, the TV and WiFi weren’t well working during our stay. No TV and WiFi wouldn't work on our iPads.
The pool, a key reason for booking, was very cold, and the hot tub was broken. Only one of the two elevators was operational, leading to long waits and a lot of frustration for guests. The breakfast was fine for our kids, but the hotel didn’t seem prepared for the volume of guests, likely due to the influx from the Bataan Death March event. Despite bringing some of the issues to the staff’s attention during our stay, they were polite but didn’t offer any solutions.
Considering the full price for the area, nearly $200 after taxes, I expected a much better experience, even with the ongoing disruption from construction. I would not recommend staying here until renovations are completed.
