We were charged $200 plus tax, so roughly $225 for a room that was a complete dump. The hotel is way past it’s prime, and Marriott should be ashamed that this hotel carry’s their name. I’m incredibly disappointed with Marriott. I’m a lifetime elite member, and one might expect that this level of faithfulness to the Marriott brand would result in special treatment, but in fact the opposite seems to be the case.
We got to our room and found it to be completely unacceptable for a Marriott property. It looked more like a $50 a night room. We immediately discovered that the TV didn’t work. It took about 1 hour or longer for the maintenance man to arrive. He told us he was new and had no idea what to do. So he had the desk call us and move us to a another room. That TV worked, but didn’t get any local channels- all we could get was Pluto. Then I found that on order to get to the balcony, we had to open 2 sliding glass doors and a rickety old screen door. The first door was off the track so once open we left it alone.
We were tired from a day of driving so we stayed even though the mattress wasn’t very comfortable and with the other problems noted above.
The next morning my wife took a shower, which was brave. The shower had green discoloring, and a “splat” of something near the drain. Gross, but I guess she really needed a shower. Then she found that the hair dryer didn’t work. So she tried to call the front desk but the phone was broken. Eventually we found a maintenance man who told us that the room we were moved to was flagged as un-rentable, and we could certainly believe that!
I was given a refund. But this was a horrible experience and I’m not sure I can continue to stay at Marriott properties going forward. We rented 2 hotel rooms during this vacation, both Marriott brands, and they were both bad experiences. But the Peoria Courtyard was especially horrible.
