It had good and bad. The check in experience is a bit weird. You have to check in at the best western next door and everything is ran through there. The pool, breakfast area are all on the best western property. We were in the back apartment/suite buidling which has a path that leads to the pool and then too the main BW parking and entrance. Staff at the BW was great, very friendly and accomidating.They did clean the room daily but they do it early so if you plan on sleeping in you wont get serivice that day. The room it self was clean and roomy but we stayed in one of the basement rooms and the smell inside the room was awful. Not sure if its because it was closer to the pool or if there is something else going on but it was a very strong musty smell that was almost too much to handle. Had to wash everything we took into the room thoroughly even my daughters stuff animals which all smelled musty. I know its a more humid area there but even the carpet and all the things in the room just felt moist every day. The 2 rooms and the beds were very clean, the pull out bed inside the couch was pretty old and worn down but it got the job done. Overall the interior was super dated, Felt like it hadnt been updated since the mid 90's. There isnt a phone in the room but one in the hallway so if you need to phone the front desk you have to leave the room to do so. Upon arriving the smoke dector battery needed replaced and was beeping. We told the front desk at the BW and by time we came back from dinner it was taken care of. Would stay at the BW instead of this property. Cant say enough how great the staff was, even the breakfast bar was fully stocked and was nice to not spend money on that everyday somewhere in town. Hill city is what you would expect from a touristy town, all sit down type of resturants a mountain town main street and everything is super expensive for what it is, but again that was expected going in. Its also a quick 20 minutes to rushmore from there. even quicker to crazy horse.

Rushmore is 20 minutes, Crazy horse maybe 15. Alot of stuff closer to Rapid city which is about 30 minutes away.quiet town, very small. Property was quiet. Just watch out for the UTV's they drive on the street with the cars and they are everywhere !towards the end of town but its small enought that its maybe a half mile walk to the heart of everything.There is a resturant up the hill from the hotel but I wouldnt recommend it. Terrible serivce and rude staff. The couple of resturants and shops on main street we visited were much better. Its a tourist town so everything is going to be a bit overpriced. Mostly the same menu at the resturants, burgers, chicken wings/tenders, bbq. There is a pizza place that was decent.

Apartments are nice just a little outdated. Things seems to work. It's connected to the Best Western so you get breakfast, access to pool and workout room etc. Located on the North end of Hill City so great location.
