Great room, huge bathroom that was disability friendly, comfy beds! And then it turned sour. We were in a disabled room back in a corner. Our neighbors smoked. Normally, this isn't a problem. Except our door didn't have a proper seal and so we could smell the cigarettes and weed that they were smoking right outside their/our door. We did not report this to management because honestly, I'm not sure what they could have done to stop people from smoking in a public area.
The next morning we got up to shower and head on our way. I showered first in the smaller shower, and my mom was going to use the larger/disability friendly one. Except the disabled shower wouldn't turn on. We first thought it was because I was in the other shower, but even after I got out, it wouldn't work. I fully planned on telling the staff about it, but my mom said she'd just shower nice and slow in the smaller one so I started getting us ready to leave while she showered.
This is when tragedy struck. On the pillow I had been cuddling to sleep I saw a little brown thing moving. Upon further inspection, my worst fear came true. A live bedbug. Thankfully the little thing was very thin and didn't appear to have fed, but it was in my bed.
I immediately called the front desk upon finding it and told them. They said they would be writing a report. After I got off the phone I then scooped the bug up into a little paper coffee cup, and then put that cup into a ziplock bag we had in the room (us moms always travel fully prepared, don't we?).
I took it to the front when we checked out less than an hour later. I was told I wouldn't be charged due to the bug, but I was. I was also told the manager would be in touch with me that day - she never called. When we got home I immediately put my travel stuff into the wash on ultra high, put everything in bags, I did all the right things to avoid bringing the pests home. And it looked like it worked! I had no bites, neither did my mom, and everyone in my household that hadn't traveled also wasn't getting bit.
About a week went by and I was busy getting my disabled mom settled into her new home. One morning I woke up to find 3 red marks/bumps on my arm in a little cluster formation. Now, I'm an anxious person so I was really hoping this was stress induced eczema flaring up but out of an abundance of caution we scheduled a free inspection with a local pest control company. A few days later, they came and confirmed our worst fear - we've been invaded. Upon hearing this news, I called and asked the person working the front desk, Becca, for a manager. She said the manager wasn't in yet but she'd take a message and call me when she got in about 2 hours later - she never did. I called again, spoke to the same person (Becca) who asked me how she could help. I told her about the bed bug and she immediately processed a refund. I told her we now have bed bugs in our house and asked if they'd be able to compensate us in any way for the cost of treatment. She said she would speak to the manager and I'd be called back. This was a week ago and no one has called me.
