We booked this hotel for 6 nights, and here is our honest review. We chose it because it was one of the most affordable options among the hotels closest to Boston. We saw the 3.4 rating on Google and decided to give it a shot due to Sonder good reputation in Montreal and the appealing photos of the rooms on the website.
Overall, we were satisfied. It’s clean and matches the photos. The rooms are tidy, the beds and pillows are very comfortable, and I especially appreciated that the curtains are 100% blackout, which helps me sleep well.
The hotel is very well located, close to plenty of restaurants and cafes, free parking near by and just a few dozen minutes from downtown. For the price we paid, we were satisfied.
Here are some points for improvement:
• At the reception: I felt that the staff lacked a bit of warmth. Usually, in a hotel, there’s a certain level of hospitality, and I didn’t feel that vibe. It doesn’t cost more to be welcoming, and it makes a huge difference for the guest experience.
• Breakfast: The site indicates that a modest breakfast is included. I didn’t have high expectations, but the issue is that it’s always the same thing every day and no protein at all. While it’s convenient and saves on morning meals, it’s very nothing special.
• Dormitory vibe: At times, I felt like we were in a dorm with lots of students. I often wondered if we were in a hotel or some kind of student dormitory, as many people were hanging out in the lobby wearing pajamas.
• The rooms are not soundproof at all; you can hear every conversation. Thankfully, our neighbors were generally quiet, but there were moments when I woke up late at night simply because I could hear everything. And yet, I’m someone who usually sleeps very deeply.
In conclusion, I’d recommend it, especially for those who don’t plan to spend much time in the rooms. It’s perfect for people who spend most of their day outside, but if you’re looking for the typical hotel experience or anything more high end, you might consider a different option.
