I had an extremely disappointing experience at UChicago Medicine. After a 7-hour wait in the ER with a severely swollen leg and a potentially infected pincer nail, I was finally seen, but the lack of urgency and care is alarming. Despite my obvious condition, I repeatedly asked for a wheelchair and was not given one, forcing me to walk on my swollen leg the entire time. This caused even more discomfort and severe pain.
The room I was taken to finally after 7 hours in the waiting area, has no proper space or bed for me to elevate my foot, which is essential in cases like this. Currently, I am still here and have not been given any medication for pain. I fear the infection may have spread due to the extended delay in treatment. At this point, I’m in need of immediate care, possibly from a specialist. I also was unable to pick up my prescribed antibiotics due to this extended wait.
It’s deeply concerning that such a serious condition wasn’t treated with the care it deserves. The lack of attention, especially when infection is involved, is unacceptable. If my condition worsens, I believe this facility should be held accountable. Please improve your service for the sake of patient safety!
Lastly, there is a complaint number tapped on the glass at check in with a bandage smh! It is not a live person on the other end only where you leave voice messages.
