Hi!
I'm Isabel.
Not "Ms. Isabelle".
Just Isabel. My last name is Johannes.
I'm the PCT at the The Little Clinic at Kroger on Main Street.
I don't think that many folks/patients/family members (or 'boyfriends") know/understand how a walk-in clinic works. Maybe you've never needed to visit a Little Clinic; either way, i thought i would share some things about where i work.
This isn't a review by Kroger.
This isn't a review by The Little Clinic.
It's just some really good-to-know information about The Little Clinic....and can pretty much apply to any walk-in clinic or doctor's office.
Each Little Clinic is staffed daily by two employees: a Provider and a PCT (Patient Care Technician). There is no receptionist. I am a PCT; i help by checking in patients, checking insurance coverage, collecting copays, taking vitals and running tests on patients. I'm not at the front desk a lot as i'm usually getting the patient ready to see our Provider. That's why there is a kiosk next to the front desk. Your appointments can be made there, you can check in for your appointment, pay a bill, or schedule a vaccine appointment. You can even get an appointment to get your blood pressure taken for free!
When you make your appointment online, you receive a message asking you to please check in 5 minutes BEFORE your appointment. This way, you can be checked in, pay any past due balances or copays and be ready to be seen. Each appointment is scheduled for 15 minutes. If you show up at 5/10 minutes past your appointment, you're 10/15 minutes late. If you are late and we have a full schedule, we move you down to the very next available time so you can be seen. We don't move your appointment to make your life miserable; we move your appointment so you can be seen and so that other patients will be seen at their on-time appointment time. It's not fair to other patients to be seen late because you are late to your appointment. I understand things happen and i promise you, we try our best to work everyone in, but sometimes, due to the sheer amount of patients we have, we can't.
The Little Clinic also has a dedicated phone service/answering service. All calls go to this phone service; your phone call isn't answered at clinic level. The phones DO NOT ring in any of the exam rooms. So, say you were "running late" and called to let us know. This service will take your message, make a phone encounter to let us know. The Provider (not the PCT) receives EVERY phone encounter; so, if you left a message, the clinic will receive it. If you call to let us know you're late, the Provider WILL get the message. If we don't get a message, maybe you didn't make it clear that you needed us to know. I can't stress this enough, if you realize you are going to be late, then please, reschedule. We are open from 8:30am-7:30pm Monday-Friday and we are open 8:30am-5 pm on Saturday and 9:30am-4pm on Sunday.
Leaving notes crumpled up on the desk like trash for us to find isn't helpful at all. In fact, those crumpled up notes usually end up in the trash because we are busy taking care of the next patient. Leaving reviews on Goggle are a great way to let people know how you were treated at an establishment; getting your family members (or your 'boyfriend') to leave a review when they weren't the patient to begin with is a bit pointless.
We really do try to see everyone and to help everyone who comes in to see us. We understand that you don't feel well and probably would rather be anywhere else than with us. We do care. We do want to help. We do want to see you feel better. I promise you, none of us would work within the medical field if we didn't care about people. We care....and we care a lot. Please try to be understanding towards us and TALK to us instead of leaving notes crumpled on the desk or yelling on the phone.
If you've taken the time to read all of this, thank you.
Be well.
