I have been communicating with Dr. Siddiqui regarding a doctor I have been seeing in Boston for the past year. I requested a prior authorization, but because Dr. Siddiqui did not provide the correct information, my request was denied. I have seen doctors in Rhode Island and wanted a second opinion. Interestingly, Dr. Siddiqui originally referred me to this Boston doctor when I had a different insurance plan. Now he claims that he does not understand why I needed to see this doctor, despite our previous conversations about it.
As a patient, I have the right to see the specialists I choose. However, Dr. Siddiqui refuses to file an appeal, stating that it would take two hours out of his day and that he has other patients to attend to, saying it is too time-consuming. The doctor in Boston has been instrumental in my care and is also collaborating with my heart doctors.
It is clear that Dr. Siddiqui has not been attentive to my medical history over the past year, and I am in shock about this situation. I have proof of his referral, and one would expect that a doctor referring a patient should clearly understand the reasons behind the referral. I have been going back and forth with my insurance, and they even contacted him to appeal the denial of authorization, but he declined.
Patient neglect should never be an option, especially when a patient requires medical care from a specialist. This situation is unacceptable, and the way I was treated is also unacceptable. I will be reporting this matter to ensure it does not happen to another patient. It is crucial to advocate for yourself in healthcare.
All conversations between patient and doctor have been recorded.
