Im a relatively young, active and work a very physical job. I was cruising through life but it felt like someone turned on the resistance on my bike or increased the incline on the treadmill. I was gaining weight, having muscle aches, feeling lethargic, having occasional brain fog and migraines.
I saw my regular doctor a few times over the last 3 years and I was told I need to lose weight (I work on roofs 8-10 hours a day 6 days a week, relatively muscular and only overweight by about 20-30lbs).
I decided to see if it could be a thyroid issue, or if I have low testosterone (which I had a hard time accepting because I thought I was a young virile man!).
I went through the early process of blood tests and visits with Dr. Merlino. He rejected starting me on testosterone therapy even though I had low testosterone. He told me my bloodwork and what I described in the consultation led him to believe there might be something else and he would not put me on testosterone treatment until I went and got an MRI and saw an endocrinologist.
2 months go by and I finally got an MRI, conclusion is I have a small pituitary tumor which has many side affects, one of which is Testosterone levels. I am now being treated for this tumor and plan to head back to Dr. Merlino in 3 months and have tests done to see if treating if medicating the tumor suppresses the hormones that are causing low testosterone. I hope the migraines go away!
Thanks to Dr. Merlino for not just taking my money and putting me on testosterone therapy and being diligent enough to stress on me to have an MRI and see and Endocrinologist.
