tl;dr: biased care, no communication
I waited for months for an appointment and was excited to get the help I needed when I finally got to see my provider. Unfortunately, from the moment I mentioned my PCP had prescribed a stimulant thinking I probably have ADHD, the provider assigned to me began lecturing me on substance abuse. By lecture, I mean that it was constantly brought up during the entire appointment over and over again.
Understanding her concern I assured her of the care I was taking and detailed all the ways in which I did not use it unless it was absolutely necessary. In fact, I had been off the medication voluntarily for a month prior. Still she went on about students abusing it for good grades.
I attempted to accept her misbelief. I am sure she’s had experience before that has guided her prejudice. Regardless I continued in good faith. She wanted to access past medical records before deciding. This was fine. I hoped it would calm her bias as I have no record of drug abuse.
She decided not to diagnose and her wording made me believe she had not let up her bias. I sought to get a second opinion from a different provider at paradigm, citing my concerns with my current provider's behavior. I was told no other providers were available and it was implied I should seek treatment elsewhere.
In this area there is very little options for competent psychiatric care so since my previous provider had sent a message looking to continue treatment I asked to schedule an appointment. I was denied that and there has been a complete lack of communication.
Desperate, I have reached out in every possible way but I have gotten nothing but radio silence. I was promised responses at certain times and then never heard anything. For a company motto that includes “removing barriers” I was shocked to be treated this way.
I keep reading the website, the messages the company has put on there about removing barriers and providing compassionate mental health care, but I can’t say that my experience has matched the promises.
Edit: The provider I was assigned, Ashley, is new to the company - not even listed on their website at this time. I have heard absolutely wonderful things about other providers, like Erik and Mike.
