SCAM ALERT! Avoid this place unless you want to be ripped off. My sweet sister, who is a single mother with limited financial means, wanted to treat herself to a relaxing massage to help alleviate her tension/stress headaches. She said the massage itself was terrible. The massage therapist appeared to be sick, was sniffling, and aggressively breathing on her throughout the entire massage. Then, when she went to check out, they stole her money. The charge was $65. She gave the guy $100 in cash and mentioned that she was just taking a moment to calculate how much she wanted back. The guy surprisingly responded by saying he wouldn’t give her any change back. (Keeping the full $100 would have amounted to a 53% tip.) Confused, she asked him what he meant and he said he wouldn’t give any change back. In other words, he stole her money by keeping additional tip funds she had not authorized or permitted him to keep. The exchange was really contentious and uncomfortable so she finally just asked him for $10 back. This was still nearly a 40% tip. He was rude to her and said again he wouldn’t give her $10 back. She then told him to return the full $35 in light of how he was treating her and his refusals, which finally prompted him to give her a $10 bill. She left and then called the owner to report the incident and request the tip be returned to her given how unprofessional and inappropriate (and illegal) the exchange was. The owner ultimately told her to “call the police” and hung up. Reading the company’s other reviews, there are countless reviews confirming that the company regularly employs high pressure tactics like this and even outright refuses to return people’s credit cards until they concede permission to charge a higher tip amount. Some people even report in their reviews that the company charges unauthorized tip amounts (which is also theft). This is such audacious conduct but, what is more, it is illegal. We will be contacting the police, the attorney general to address these consumer protection issues, and DORA to initiate an investigation. This is outrageous and people just shouldn’t be treated this way.
