I just walked out of the salon, again, with a giant smile on my face. I have been going to Megan Hislop for 3 years. My hair has changed over the years as I’ve trusted it in her hands. She has helped me find the right products, the right styling tools, we’ve even talked about nutrition. Let’s be honest a salon can be like therapy, and I’m thankful to the moon and back that I have Megan. She always schedules me for another visit before I leave. She has work with me when I explained I couldn’t get in to her as often as needed. That means she knew the right way to color my hair so that it would grow out in a way that wasn’t awful and looking as if it needed to be colored. No harsh lines.
She is open and honest when it comes to hair style and color. I’ve walked in several times to an appointment and said “I don’t know what to do, what do you think?” And again I walk out smiling. She has always taken my hair health. She advised me against drastic change that might damage my hair and instead suggested steps for the next few visits to achieve what I wanted.
I discovered my hair color was changing, it wasn’t the red that I wanted. We talked about sun exposure, red dye itself and hair follicles, even my well water at home. She suggested a filter on my shower head, I got one and in time we saw the change in my hair. Also products that help against sun damage, wearing a hat. I damage my hair daily by pulling it back to workout. Megan and I talked about different ways to get it out of my face, cloth headbands, clips, different fabric hair bands. My working out and intense sweating leads to drying out my hair. So months ago she suggested I leave conditioner in my hair so it protects my hair. My point is she digs deeper and truly is there for you for your hair health. Not just to instantly make you look amazing.
Many people want instant change with hair and they don’t take in consideration the entire picture. Megan considers the entire picture. She will be realistic and honest with you about style, color, texture, products…all of it. You can walk in with a picture wanting hair like Jennifer Aniston, but if you don’t have the type of hair, or facial structure or willingness to spend money on products -you aren’t going to look like her when you walk out.
As for price, it is what it is. I wish everything was less expensive (from workout leggings to fuel to facials to medicine to groceries to housing). But one thing I know is that for quality there is a price. Megan uses quality products, and is an amazing talented artist.
