I have been suffering from chronic hamstring and achilles pain for about two years. Playing tennis a lot more frequently for a couple of years has exacerbated my condition. I know the pain is muscular and not related to bone or joints. Before I "found" Kenny, I have sought regular swedish and shiatsu massage therapy and of late, have bounced around a couple of self-proclaimed sports massage therapists. Nothing helped. Frustrated, I did a google search for another sports therapist in RI, with a functional rehabilitation background and found Kenny's website. Reading about his background, training, and reviews gave me hope so I readily booked a session.
I have to say, Kenny is the real deal. We did not spend my hour and 15 minutes on the table for the usual full body massage with some concentration on my areas of pain. Instead, he really used the time to focus on the leg and related areas, and not just doing the typical massage. He employed a combination of treatment techniques, working on finding the source of the chronic pain, and he was spot on. After the table session, we spent some time off table, too, doing some functional movement/exercises that I can do on my own for strengthening. This is how I know Kenny is the professional I need.
I am definitely planning to come back, not just for the sports massage but to try the mobility/functional range conditioning.
If you are suffering from sports-related pain and are looking for a real focus and solution and not just a "relaxing" massage, I recommend seeing Kenny Charron, LMT.
