I rarely give reviews online, but I wanted to make sure I took the time to write this particular one.
I was diagnosed in 2016 with multiple polyps which had blocked my frontal sinuses and completely blocked my nostrils resulting in a total loss of smell and taste along with a chronically runny nose.
My primary care doctor initially insisted the issue was enlarged turbinates from allergies. Finally, after more than a year, the affiliated hospital did a CT scan and then told me they could not provide whatever the procedure was that I needed and recommended I go to a specialist at UVA about possible skull surgery. Yikes!
The specialist at UVA told me the skull surgery may be needed to clear the frontal sinuses, but they wanted to try and treat it first. They did another CT scan and removed a large polyp on the right side and put me on a steroid rinse and a course of Prednisone.
Six months later after another CT scan, my frontal sinuses were clear, and the polyps were under control.
Not wanting to travel to UVA from Salem for continued preventative care, I researched local ENT doctors and came across Dr. Zachmann at Jefferson Surgical and realized he was also a graduate of UVA in 1999.
I made my first appointment in 2017 and he informed me that he would have been able to provide the same treatment including the possible surgery without having to travel almost 6 hours round trip.
Now, I have been a patient of Dr. Zackmann for 5 years on an annual basis and all I can say is he is a first-rate doctor and a Godsend.
Under his care, with a few small procedures and detailed questions, answers and instructions, I have enjoyed five years of tasting and smelling and just breathing freely. He is always patient and considerate of any questions or concerns and takes the time to make sure I understand exactly what he is doing.
In a world that is becoming increasingly less personable, and where you can go to healthcare providers who may treat you like a number, it is so refreshing to find a doctor (and even the receptionists and nurses) that actually treat you like they would like to be treated.
Thank you Dr. Zachmann and Jefferson Surgical!
