There's always room for improvement, but overall I have been very happy with the new gym. Coming from 5 years of CrossFit, it's definitely been a transition, but my body is way happier, specifically my joints. As a 45+ y/o man, I didn't realize how generally beat up I was when I was doing CrossFit. The intentionality the weight lifting focus has given me has helped me get and feel stronger.
The gym itself has a great selection of equipment and is a good size... not too big, not too small. It's a no-frills facility so don't expect an espresso machine. The gym community is fairly friendly and welcoming, but people are there to work. Of course, I'm sure the afternoon/evening hours offer a different energy than the early morning hours.
The gym does not adhere to a class format, and there are pros and cons to that. Having more flexibility in my workout schedule has, in a way, given me more self-accountability. As someone who works out in the morning, there are some days where the gym is very quiet. The trainer, Michael, is nearly always there and available as a resource, spotter, set of eyes, sharer of banter, etc, but as someone who is experienced with most of the movements and such, I also have the freedom to workout at a pace that suits me rather than being tied to a clock.
