I’m mystified by some of the poor reviews here about the Exhale Spa in the North End. My experience over the last nine months has been very positive, despite the temporary closure that occurred due to a small electrical fire that occurred. (Staffing cuts during the recovery period—understandable given the circumstance—no doubt led to some of the service and communication issues described here.) The facility re-opened a couple months ago, and it’s back in good condition. The spa has also been adding staff to the front desk and starting to expand the barre, yoga, and Pilates classes.
I take several fitness classes here each week and also use the fitness center; I’m very happy with the facility, the barre and yoga instructors, and the warm and personable customer service at the front desk. All the instructors I’ve had have been exemplary: knowledgeable, well prepared, communicative, motivating, and providing the right amounts of challenge and variety. Katie, Annette, Tyla, and Elaine are all excellent! Alyssa the spa attendant at the front desk is always cheerful and friendly, and there are several new attendants that seem like good additions. The fitness center, though not as large as some full-fledged gyms, has enough free weights and machines for my needs, is clean and well maintained, and the membership fees for everything are much more reasonable than other places nearby. (Also, the fitness center is not overly crowded, so it’s rare that you have to wait for a machine.)
Of course, there’s always room for improvement. I’d like to see the cycling center re-open at some point, as it would be great to have those classes available. But overall I see Exhale as getting back on track in this location. I’m encouraged to see the schedule of classes expanding, and I’m appreciative of the great service I’ve been receiving.
