Rheumatologists, in general, seem to be an arrogant lot. We don't really know why.Dr. (I use this term loosely) Cassell takes this arrogance to an art form.My 46 year old wife has suffered with multiple issues for a very long time, and was desperate for help. Our first rheumatologist in Vancouver, WA essentially said, "You're too pretty to be sick."Parenthetically, Dr. Cassell never once asked about my wife's medical history. NOT ONE QUESTION.She had had a stroke, has Interstitial Cystitis, a debilitating and incurable disease of the bladder, severe bursitis, chronic migraines, severe night sweats, gall bladder surgery, two ambulance rides to the ER due to lack of consciousness from pain, and had been to see doctors over 70 times since 2013.Many of these things are not within the scope or practice of rheumatology, but the body's health and function is all interconnected. We went in to be tested for auto-immune disorders, because my wife had twice tested positive for Lupus, and we couldn't understand why her joints would inflame so badly she sometimes couldn't even blow her nose. After the requisite blood test, Dr. Cassell came in and gave us a treatise on what Lupus was, and what it wasn't. He went on and on.Unfortunately, we already knew what he was telling us.I do not possess the vocabulary to describe his arrogance and apparent disdain of us sitting in his office. But he did mention that we had been sitting there for 45 minutes, like this was our fault."Hey Dr. Cassell, are we interrupting your day? Do you have more important people to see?My wife was simply trying to ask clarifying questions. He was rude, short, interrupting, and cutting her off.It essentially came down to this. Would we be interested in getting a Rx for her bursitis. And here we go again.Reluctantly, we got the shot for one elbow, it did nothing. Then, finally, we got this, and I quote:"If you aren't willing to take these medications we are prescribing, we are finished here."You cannot drug yourself back to health. There are reasons the body is reacting to and manifesting sickness. There ARE reasons. But I can guarantee you this, Dr. Cassell isn't interested or skilled enough to find out what they are. There is, however, a nice view of the mountains from the office windows.
