I went to Dr. Self for a breast explant and total/complete capsulectomy and lift (mastopexy). I am BEYOND satisfied with my care from pre-op to post-op. He’s methodically detailed, a perfectionist in the best way. He pays attention to everything. He literally addressed 2 pages of questions that I brought to my initial consultation. I probably didn’t even need the questions because he gave me answers to mostly everything prior to even seeing them. I suffered from a long list of BII symptoms for many years and I wanted to make sure I was in the best hands because my health was at stake. He believes in preserving as much breast tissue as possible, which I think is important to many women undergoing explant surgery who worry about what size they’ll be after removing their implants. I cared more about the health aspects.. but now I do appreciate that he cared about both… restoring my health as well as making sure that I actually looked good and had the absolute best end result in every way possible. At my first post op follow up visit, he provided me with pictures of my implants inside the capsules as one piece still intact and pictures of the implants outside of the capsules to prove all of the capsules were removed from my body. He also provided me with an operative report that outlined the details of my surgery at my 2 week post op. He also gave me my implants back once I woke up from surgery.
I couldn’t be happier with how my breasts look… my chest went back to when I was 18. I didn’t even bruise. I have perfectly clean lines… I did not have to take anything besides Tylenol for 3 days. My drains were placed comfortably. After care was simplified and easy because of his unique preparations and dressings. He called me even over the weekend. This is not the norm for other ppl who choose other surgeons!! Dr self is extremely skilled. I have seen a lot of other pictures of results from other surgeons and they do not compare to Dr Self. His work is unmatched. His care is unmatched. I truly believe he is the absolute best explant surgeon in Utah — hands down. Dr. Self took his time and was extremely gentle with me during surgery. My husband joked that it doesn’t even look like I had surgery 2 weeks post op. My mom said the same thing even 1 week post op! My healing has been incredible. I cannot take credit for that. It’s not me… it’s Dr. Self! Do not doubt for one minute that you are in the best hands with Dr. Self. I’ve seen many, many doctors over the years, and if you know you know….. it’s extremely hard to find a doctor who actually cares about you and who actually cares about the work that they do. Dr. Self is committed to his patients and is equally committed to excellence!
I literally hugged Dr. Self post op… Dr Self also made me tear up during our initial consult because it was the first time I’d been so validated by a surgeon or any doctor really. Once I met Dr self, my search was over. He was the one. Dr Self was 0 weirdness.. and for a long time I’ve avoided male doctors… so for me to say that is a big deal!! Dr. self puts the patient first, always. He is smart, thorough, kind, believes in bii, he’s experienced, he is the best. He didn’t just change my life, he saved me. He gave me my life back, and I am forever thankful.
There is something very special about this man….He is way more than a plastic surgeon, he might be an angel!
Side experience: Just sitting in the lobby at my post op visit, another woman was telling the receptionist that Dr. Self found her breast cancer when she had seen many, many doctors (including radiation doctors) who previously missed it and kept telling her she was fine (for years). Dr self point blank found her cancer during their first appointment. If she would have seen Dr self just one month later, it would have killed her.
I’m telling you… he saves lives!
