Do NOT see Dr. Santivanez if you care about your health or the health of your loved one. My dad was a patient of his and was having some health concerns that landed him in the ER after hours. After running some tests, it was determined that his red blood cell count was dangerously high and he was strongly advised to see a hematologist to rule out cancer, which was a major concern with his symptoms and labs. When he followed up with Dr. Santivanez, the doctor told him, "You don't have cancer. You know how I know that? Because you're my patient. I know you don't have cancer." I don't understand how he (or anyone) could know this with certainty without proper testing, which he didn't want to do. He told him he wouldn't refer him out to a hematologist because he didn't think it was necessary. So my parents left with a false sense of hope, thinking my dad didnt have cancer or anything seriously wrong with him. I continued to push my mom to take him to another doctor for a second opinion. My dad actually liked Dr. Santivanez so he continued to see him for a few visits after this, but my mom was starting to get frustrated with the doctor. She said she would always have questions and concerns, but said the doctor never really looked at her and seemed annoyed by her questions. My dad did end up seeing a hematologist and was referred by his VA doctor because Dr. Santivanez wouldn't do it. I seriously have NO idea why this was such a hard thing for him to do. It's not like any of this testing comes from his paycheck. Fast forward, my brother had his friend (who is a doctor) see my dad, who addressed all of his concerns, and also advised him to see a hematologist to rule out cancer. He also gave some good, solid advice, including dietary and lifestyle changes. Dr. Santivanez just wants you on all the drugs. My dad was prescribed all sorts of medications and not once did the doctor attempt to help him to get off of any of them through lifestyle changes. The other doctor, however, did give some good health advise. After all was said and done and the proper tests were finally run, it was determined that my dad does, in fact, have cancer. Heartbroken that it took this long to get some answers and to have a plan in place. I hope Dr. Santivanez reads this review and actually takes the time to consider what kind of doctor he is, because from what I've heard from my parents and what they experienced sounds like a sad excuse for a "healthcare" provider who needs to find a different line of work. Do yourselves a favor and find a provider who actually holds fast to the Hippocratic oath, to "first do no harm."
