I do not write negative reviews lightly, but this was over the top. During my first office visit, on 12/12/2024, I was having routine X rays taken. The dental technician gave me the typical, hard plastic bite plate, to hold between my teeth, while they changed the angles of the dental radiography unit. They took a few images and then there was, what sounded like, an explosion and the bite plate was violently ripped out of my mouth, gouging my inner gum line and snapping my head and neck hard left. I screamed and for a moment I was afraid to touch my mouth because I thought my teeth had been yanked out.
When Dr Ahmad came into the room, he asked if I was ok. I told him, “No, I’m not ok. I taste blood in my mouth, my teeth, jaw and neck hurt, because I just experienced whiplash. What caused this to happen?” Dr Ahmad explained to me that the cord, which had been attached to the bite plate between my teeth, had been stretched across the doorway and plugged into a laptop on the counter behind me. So, basically it was set up like a tripwire and that's exactly what happened: a person either entered or exited the room, tripped the cord which pulled the laptop off the counter and sent it crashing to the floor, while jerking the bite plate out of my mouth.
Now, at this point, if Dr Ahmad had said,” I am so sorry that this happened to you, it was a terrible mistake and I will do everything to make sure this never happens again. I will personally see to it that all my employees are trained to set up this configuration safely in the future.”
I’d have still been upset, but I am reasonable, because accidents happen and if the response was accountability and due diligence to fix the safety hazard, I would have accepted and forgiven the situation. But, that’s not what happened. Dr Ahmad did say he was sorry, but went on to tell me; that’s just the way they did things and there was no other way to set it up. I was dumbfounded, looking around the room I could see many different, safer solutions. Then he examined my mouth and informed me that my teeth were just fine, nothing to worry about, and handed me a little mirror, so I could see that the bleeding wasn’t that bad, and I was going to be just fine. I was in shock. I asked him again to clarify; that even after witnessing a patient being injured by this haphazard setup, he still had no intention of changing it?
He began to give me a litany of excuses and that’s when I walked out of his office. He made it very clear; my getting hurt by his unsafe system was a personal problem. No one from his office reached out the next day to follow up or file an incident report, not to mention inquire about my well being. Insult to injury.
I regret not reading the other reviews before going to this dentist. There is a documented pattern of negligence here detailing how this business owner/service provider does not care, value, or respect his very nice staff or his trusting patients enough to ensure his practice is safe.
*If you are considering making an appointment at APY Dental, save yourself the trip and simply tie a string around your tooth, perhaps put a plastic cookie cutter or a lighter in your mouth, for that little bit of extra edge, and tie the other end of the string to a door knob. Now, have a friend or an enemy roundhouse kick the door shut. You’re welcome, problem solved, you will be just fine.
